    Kit Brewers.

My dad alternates between AG brews with our Grainfather and Coopers Canadian blonde kits (with extra hops added at various stages). He does this to save on time. He was convinced the AG was superior until he got his corny kegs mixed up and was drinking the wrong one for a while. He had...

    Thornbridge Big Easy

Funny you should mention Nanny State. I had a can of that straight after. I would rate the Thornbridge one much better but that could be personal preference.

    Thornbridge Big Easy

Pale Ale. "Full of flavour but low in alcohol. Big Easy overflows with sublime American hops which produce a beautiful bouquet of lemon, peach and apricot."

    Thornbridge Big Easy

I know the subject of low / no alcohol beer is an evocative one on the forum so I'll tread carefully. Just had a Thornbridge Big Easy as I'm off any quantity of booze for a while and I have to say it's the nicest low alcohol beer I've ever had. Only 0.5% so it's a good one to look out for if...

New Allgrain set up starting in garage

I got hold of two plasterboard pallets for free and built my bench out of those. They are incredibly strong due to their box nature. Added some wickes timber for the uprights. This allowed me to get my sink at the perfect height. Then used the left over timber to clad it.

New Allgrain set up starting in garage

I managed to get a Belfast sink that scrubbed up very nicely. My dad took the piss initially that my tap was about 4.5 foot up the wall until I pointed out that a corny keg or a fermenter in the sink necessitated this. It also stops the kids messing with it as well.

New Allgrain set up starting in garage

I put a water supply into my garage for brewing by putting a t joint into a supply for an outside tap. My first bit of real plumbing. It was highly satisfying to do it all myself. I struggled with waste water though. Didn't have a drain in the garage and didn't want to dig my garden up. So...

    Sugar mistake

A mate of mine showed me the "prison hooch" he was fermenting in an old style pressure barrel. He had stretched a condom (with a pin hole pierced in the end) over the top of the barrel threaded entry and secured it with an elastic band. As fermentation kicks in it "stands to attention" and as...

Brewing Syndicate - do regs apply?

Thanks for the responses. Might think of another fundraising idea instead.

Brewing Syndicate - do regs apply?

Thought as much. Might charge them £20 each to sit on my garden chairs and give them the beer and kebabs for free.

Brewing Syndicate - do regs apply?

Hijacking the thread but on a similar note. I was planning a charity beer night in the summer. Bit like a charity coffee morning but hopefully more fun. Would ask for a donation per pint and then have a few kebabs on the bbq, again for a small donation. Would be friends attending. I...

    Pop the Cherry

That looks great. I cheated and used a few bottles of cheap cherry syrup from the Polish supermarket and a few small bottles of cherry brandy essence. The finished product tasted like snake bite and black but in a nice sort of way. I'm considering approaching my local green grocer about a...

    AG#8 Lager thingy

I showed my dad my lager fermenting last night and accused him of farting in my garage. Then I realised it was the smell from the fermentation fridge. Is a sulfurous guff normal from a lager yeast? PS a sulfurous guff is normal for my dad.

Good value CO2 supply in Stoke-on-Trent

I managed to get my two 2kg cylinders refilled today for a fiver each. And also acquired a 6kg bottle for 40 quid. 10 quid a refill. No rental contracts. The gent I dealt with was incredibly helpful and had me sorted and on my way in about 5 mins. I understand it's best to visit early as...

    Whacky recipes

Pinched your idea for tonight's tea. Cut chicken breasts in half flat ways and marinated in spice and yoghurt then coated with dessicated coconut and baked. Kids loved them.

    AG#8 Lager thingy

Sorry just seen query. Just chucked it in. However, I'm glad to report 4 days later it's just started to ferment.

    AG#8 Lager thingy

Just nervously waiting for my lager to start fermenting that I brewed on Wednesday. I read that the safale 34 / 70 yeast is a slow starter. Read about liquid yeasts and starters and decided against these options......may be regretting that now.....
