    Quality disconnects

I have two disconnects for my corny keg, neither of which is any good. One doesn't release pressure from the keg, the other does, but won't stay locked on. Can anyone recommend a source of good quality disconnects that work as they should?

    Derbyshire home brewing club

Not that I know of, I've been trying to find one myself. I'd be interested in joining one, or even just an informal get together to discuss beer brewing now and again.

Can I reduce the ABV of a recipe?

Finally got this brew going today, 23L batch, using 4.2kg of MO. For the first time, I had a stuck mash on my Grainfather, and I'm trying to work out why. The only thing different I can think of is that I got my grain from the Home Brew Co. Ireland, whereas I normally use The Worcester Hop...

Water volume in a Grainfather. Help!

The comparison between the two machines on YouTube was done in three parts by the late, great Paul Wicksteed on his 'Time 4 Another 1' channel. He does a fantastic, impartial job of reviewing the two vessels; his death last year is a sad loss to the brewing community. I based my own choice on...

    Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter

Thanks Clibit. I do like hoppy beers so I'll go for the late hop addition if I have enough EKG in stock. The explanation regarding the caramelising of the wort makes sense. I'll post my tasting notes when it's ready to drink. Thanks again.

    Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter

Thanks for the advice. What would you suggest as a hopping schedule then? So far, I've simply been following recipes until I gain enough knowledge to experiment, so your advice would be appreciated.

    Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter

    Bottling

The problem I have is that my Youngs Autosyphon has a larger diameter pipe than the bottling wand. Any ideas as to how to connect the two without flooding my brewery, as is normally the case?

Can I reduce the ABV of a recipe?

Many thanks for your suggestions folks. I'll give them a try and report back when I've done it. May be a while though; I've ingredients for three more brew before I buy the right stuff for the 'Punk' brew. I was just intrigued to know if it was possible. I seem to like the taste of the IPA's...

Can I reduce the ABV of a recipe?

I had a few bottles of Brewdog Punk IPA this weekend, and I love the taste. The only problem is, it's 5.6% and I prefer lower ABV beers, around 4-4.5%. I found a recipe on Beersmith, but it's even higher at 6.4%. My question is, can I just brew it with less grain, without significantly...

    The Grainfather

I'm at the same stage too. I'm currently doing extract brews, but looking to progress to all grain. I don't have much space to brew in so I think the GF is ideal (Braumeisters are too expensive, I think). I can use the 30L pan I use for extract brewing to heat the sparge water, so I won't...

    Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire Home Brew Club

Thanks Rob, very helpful. If the Grainfather is likely to be further developed I might hang on a while before I decide which one to buy. I have a 'significant' birthday coming up next August so that's when I'm likely to make the investment. Does anyone know any more about planned...

    Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire Home Brew Club

Good to hear from you Rob. I too had trouble with the other half complaining about steam and water spillage in the kitchen so I took the only course of action possible; I built a brewery in the garage! Every bloke needs a man-shed anyway, but it means I can brew whenever it suits me, which is...

    Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire Home Brew Club

Hi, I'd be interested in meeting other home brewers in the Derbyshire area (i'm in West Hallam). I've come back to brewing after a very long layoff, and how the kits have come on! Generally, I now use extract kits and I've been really impressed with the quality. I intend to progress to AG...
