    Coopers Irish Stout Review

So this now in the FV, forgot I intended to short fill to about 19 litre to up the abv so made to 22.5 litre. I ended up sticking 500g extra dark DME, 500g medium DME, 250g of dark brown sugar & about 270g syrup. Might be a bit of a gamble with those measurements but will wait & see. SG taken...

    Coopers Irish Stout Review

Not overt bothered over a longer fermentation period as I'm going to be away all of next week anyway. Just as long as there is little chance that it will stall. But for as long as fermentation is well established before I go then I guess I should be safe. Also I'm toying with the thought of...

    Coopers Irish Stout Review

I've got me delivery and doing this later today. However, the suggested fermentation temp range is 21 deg, yet my intended brew room the temp is a steady 18 deg. I assume this shouldn't be much of an issue unless the temp drops much below this as more a longer fermentation period than anything?.

    Plastic pressure barrels?

Looks like a handy replacement lid that.

    Plastic pressure barrels?

Hmm, 1 tip I've come by is to use ptfe tape around the lids thread as its supposed to give a better seal for the lid at least?. I'll still give it a go as I'd like to get used to the idea of pressure barrels with the thought of switching to corny or other metal ones at some point in the next...

    Plastic pressure barrels?

Hmm, so pretty much buy a new 1 to start with at least then?. And if possible buy local over mail order as I do have a close home brew store as well as a wilko. Though as a side note I am also considering replacing my fermentation buckets with fermentation barrels from new year to. But out of...

    Plastic pressure barrels?

Thanks for the replies, so mixed thoughts and hit and miss on weather you get a worthwhile barrel without issues?, which is my main concern.

    Plastic pressure barrels?

So, knowing I'm getting at least 3 brews in for Xmas starting next week and knowing I just won't have the space yet for 120+ odd bottles I'm thinking of putting the stout brew into one of those plastic pressure barrels as looking at upgrading my equipment somewhat from bottles. But I've always...

    Citra Pale Ale

Forgive my ignorance & lack of knowledge in this area as never gave cooling much attention beyond iced water. But in looking on eBay & Amazon etc, all I can find are the copper coils for wort cooling\chilling there is assumingly a cooling source or device to power the cooling process?. If so...

    Citra Pale Ale

Hmm, is there certain conditions, process or equipment required for this I wonder?. As surely it can't just be as simple as transferring wort to the FV at flame out, sticking the lid on and waiting overnight to pitch the yeast at room temp the next day?.

    Coopers Irish Stout Review

Really, seeing at the sugar count is only 250g above what I assume the instructions would suggest using if just sugar & not malt extract though?. And adding 500g of DME too Remember. I Could try syrup I guess, no reason why it has to be treacle. What I have DME wise is 500g extra dark, 1kg...

    Coopers Irish Stout Review

This will be my next brew when it turns up in a day or 2 despite not being to much into stouts normally, I'm staring to give them more attention at the beer festivals and finding them more attractive than in the past to the point I'm wanting to give a brew of it a go. Anyways, not to sure what...

    Citra Pale Ale

Hmm, in the past doing all grain brewing I was always under the impression that at flame out its important to cool the wort as quickly as possible to pitch temp?. But seriously, to leave overnight?.

Have a go at simple AG

My next AG brew will be an attempt to make a much more concentrated wort (and hop addition) then balance the difference by adding extra & iced water to the FV, a duel purpose experiment seeing as the iced water would aid cooling time. My plan is a concentrated 13\14 (ish) boil wort (due to pot...

    Ciderworks Superior Dried Oak

Well, first bottle tried tonight and unlike any mainstream commercial cider I've tasted to date. And that's in a good way of cause. Tastes quite a bit different than the sample during bottling to which makes me think just where this cider is going maturing wise as it's ever changing and still...

    Ciderworks Superior Dried Oak

After 6 days in the bottles it's now cleared quite a bit which has surprised me a lot. Not even cold crashed or chilled the bottles or anything, and yet it's still cleared much more than I expected. The little sediment that is in the bottom looks very fine (should do as from a kit after all)...

Is this brew buggered, growth on top in FV?

To be honest, I do somewhat regret binning the lot even if it was only about the 8 litre mark. As even for allowing to drain from the bottom I could still have drawn maybe 5 litres and left most of the crap on the top. I did however notice some of the stuff a little under the surface and...

    Random Promise (AG no4)

Sounds like it might be done, going to leave it another day or so then take a reading I think.

Is this brew buggered, growth on top in FV?

Thanks for all the replies guys, in the end I poured it down the drain (as much as it saddened me to do so). As a new and inexperienced brewer I could never be 100% sure on if it was possible to salvage and what exactly the issue was or the risks. Also limited and basic equipment (brewing...
