    Youngs American IPA

Popped the lid off mine tonight (day 12) for a taste and reading. SG 1.011. popped the hops in loose, but now a bit concerned it might have been too early. The instructions were talking about only 2-3 days for the hops, and now I'm thinking it might want another week in the FV. I could syphon...

    Another beer. Another problem

I've got the Young's hot egg smell on my AIPA too, starting to subside at day 3 now. Looking forward to a cheeky taste when I do the first gravity check.

    Punk IPA (advise needed please)

Nice. I saw someone talk about brewing in trade yoghurt tubs, probably the same thing. Easy to put an airlock in the top?

Interesting technique. How do you get the wort out of the 5l containers?

    Youngs American IPA

Mine's day 2 in the fermenter and a hot pongy egg smell from the bucket... It's rank!

    Young's American IPA brew

So do you syphon into a secondary before cold crashing to get rid of the hops first? I had a Cwtch kit that didn't come out great but I cold crashed in primary with hops in. Wonder if I left them in too long.

Have a go at simple AG

Very true! This was a bit of a gamble brew, I had the hops, yeast and grain and wanted to do something with them, and didn't have any other pellet hops left. Good point about the flavour, I had thought about the bitterness but didn't consider on the flip side it could end up too sweet.

Have a go at simple AG

I had a go with this recipe this evening . Used 1.2kg of Marris otter and 90g of frozen fresh hops scrumped this summer from a Cotswolds pub garden. Rehydrated half a pack of Mangrove Jack's M44. Got 6l in the demijohn at 1.050 SG. Took just under four hours all in. Let's see what comes out.

You can bang one of these on the end of your Syphon before bottling to keep the hop detritus out.

    Brewdog Indie Pale Ale

I had one and found it more interesting to look at the can than drink the beer contained within. Very dull.

    Youngs American IPA

That Cwtch is improving with time. It's two months since it was started. Wouldn't say amazing yet though. I've got one of the Youngs American IPAs on now at 22C. Hoping for a good one.

    Youngs American IPA

Ordered this kit after reading the rave reviews here. Had a disappointing time with my last kit which was a Cwytch. Tasted great in the fermenter but out of the bottle it is unbelievably bitter and not very happy. Hopefully will have more success with the Youngs!

    Mangrove Jacks Belgian Saison.

Shame. Well see what it's like in a couple of months hey. I am getting my sours and saisons mixed up!

    Mangrove Jacks Belgian Saison.

Be interesting to hear how this one turns out in the end. Was looking at these new MJ kits as they have a lot of unique varieties now. Is this the sour one?

    Cwtch hop pellet question

Also which end of the Syphon does the mesh bag go?

    Cwtch hop pellet question

Cheers. How long would you crash for? Reason I was going to batch prime is I'm a cheapskate and all my bottles are different sizes- feel like it might be impossible to work out and measure different amounts of sugar. So may be I'm better with one crash in primary then rack to 2ndary and bottle...

    Cwtch hop pellet question

Hi guys, resurrecting an old one here looking for some advice on brewing the Cwytch kit. It's my second kit, currently in the FV in my fridge coming up to the two week mark. I'm not sure how long I should leave it, and if it needs a cold crash (and what the steps would be)? Day 0 - SG 1050...
