    Floods.

I'm always reminded of Ronnie Barker's skit on The Two Ronnies that went something like "Now, the weather forecast. There'll be snow in Bow, hail in Sale and wind in Lynd. If you are going Hissingdown...take an umbrella"

    Floods.

To be honest, heavy rain in Wales in October/November is not really news (it rains here most of the rest of the year as well)

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

Apropos of absolutely nothing, the space at the top of a bottle or container with liquid in is called the 'ullage'.

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

Having recently started using PET bottles I have noticed that they seem to need a bit of extra 'thrutch' to fully tighten them and make a seal. You might try giving your remaining stock an extra twist - it can't do say harm. It might just be me getting use to them after years of using crown...

Can we be a little more accepting of our differences?

I had to google 'tilt hydrometer'....'OW MUCH? as my sainted Sheffield grandmother would have said.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

I wasn't ready but has potential. Directors always had (I haven't drunk it for years) a dry, back of mouth taste to it. I rather liked that and the home brew version has that hint to it. Whether the brew will remind me of my Courage drinking days in Stockwell or not, it promises to be a...

    Bonfire night

No personal affront taken, everyone is entitled to their view, but the UK contributes a tiny fraction of the words carbon. Our history and culture faces imminent destruction from 'revisionists' so celebrating the foiling of a plot to destroy parliament is really a small thing. Let's burn our...

Question on fermentation times and temps

I found that consistency was the key. Once I gained a brew fridge wired to and SC1000 the quality of my (kit) beer improved markedly. I tend to go for two weeks but the last couch of kits were down to target after 7 days so I gave them three more on secondary before bottling.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Might crack one of my Directors tonight. It won't be ready, it's only been in the bottle a week, but I'm curious to see how it pans out.

    Bonfire night

FFS - the amount of carbon produced by a few bonfires is minuscule compared to the carbon produced by perfectly natural wildfires across the world or by people driving to work or by the generation of energy. Stop wetting your collective pants about everything. To think that a couple of...

    Sewage

This is true, but the moaning about individual elections tends to die down and people get on with it because they realise that they've made their point and to be honest they cannot do much about it. We have left the EU. In reality there is no prospect of us ever rejoining (or in my persona...

    Sewage

I do love a Remoaner. I won't say which way I voted in the referendum, that's my business. I have voted many times in different elections. Sometimes my chosen candidate/party won, sometimes they didn't. What has happened in every single instance is that I have accepted the result sometimes...

    Sewage

Water companies have been doing this for years - under all sorts of Governments. As I understand it the current rules have been extended pending the introduction of new rules. The trendy metro types who are complaining are the same ones who have paved over their small front gardens, removing...

The most ridiculous piece of beer-drinking trivia

I have my beer poured by semi-naked Balinese dancers, conveyed to my recliner by Nordic goddesses and handed to me by raven haired Amazons. (was happens with my crisps and peanuts is not for the faint hearted or a family website )

    Weiss Beer Kit

A sound recommendation - I shall order one forthwith!

    Weiss Beer Kit

I picked up something of a taste for this stuff in Germany with the Army (along with a like of Asbach brandy). Weiss comes in three sorts, Dark (Dunkel) which is a bit heavy for me, middle (Hefe) which is OK but can be a bit 'explosive' next morning - this is the stuff Tesco sells and 'Crystal'...
