    Xmas brew related gifts

Technically none for me but my folks gave me money based on a promise that I'd spend it all on upgrading my set up to BIAB instead of it disappearing on bills:) :drink:

    Sangria

Yes. But before you actually bottle it? Probably not. Wanting to have it all done before bottling kinda limits your options. If you are looking for quick and easy you might be able to find some kind of Sangria flavouring but it's not something I've ever some across. I've been trying to come up...

    Sangria

You might find it difficult to pull off the flavors that you want without the need to mix in or add anything because Sangria itself is a mixed drink. You could make red wine and mix it up yourself and bottle it after but im not sure what sort of issues that could introduce depending on which...

    Appalling Efficiency!

Just popped your numbers into an online calc I found for temp correction. 1.029 @ mash temp corrects to 1.044. Is that more inline with what you expecting? Never done AG myself so I'm not sure if that's any help.

    What causes the homebrew twang?

How long do you keep them in the fridge? Or do you brew so much it doesn't matter:)

How Long Do Plastic Pet Bottles Last?

Say what? I'm a tad confused by that statement. Back on topic, ive got a bunch of the coopers PET that I've been using for over a year without any issues. I guess I'll just I'll keep using them till I do.

Do you chuck your trial jar contents??

If I've taken the time to sanitise everything I pour it back in. Don't see why thats a bad thing. If not, which happens more often, I'm with MyQul, taste test all the way :)

    What causes the homebrew twang?

Both. Liquid "gloop" or dried, they are both malt extract.

    should it look like this?

Either your drinking lager straight from the fridge or you're drinking the wrong lagers:) They do contain pretty much the same ingredients, it's like saying cheese and onion crisps always have more flavour than salt and vinegar. I don't believe it's more or less flavour, just different ones. A...

    LHBS closing down :(

That is one of the things I said to my mrs I do different if it was mine:) I mustn't be as daft as I look!

    LHBS closing down :(

Yeah, it must have been a nightmare to try and compete on price alone. I did a bunch of coopers kits when I started and I did always try to buy them from there even though they were a little more expensive than my local Tesco but it seems even they have have stopped doing the homebrew stuff...

    LHBS closing down :(

I'm more than a little bit gutted to see a message on facebook that my LHBS is having a closing down sale:( It's only been open about a year and a half but it's where I've been buying all my brew kits/WOW supplies since I started brewing. If I'm totally honest it has gone a bit down hill in...

    freeze fermenting?

Thats the method BrewDog used to make their Tactical Nuclear Penguin 32% beer, which was the strongest beer ever made at the time.

    Sediment After Bottling

Sediment isn't anything to worry about. It's just the spent yeast dropping out of the beer one its done eating the priming sugar. The same thing will happen to your barrel. You might be better leaving them at 19C for a bit longer than you are planning to. In my relatively limited experience 3...

    coopers mexican cerveza

There isn't really a maximum time it can be left in the FV 4. I do like to transfer my beers into a secondary bucket for a while after it finished fermenting. Longest I ever left a beer was 6 weeks in secondary. I've done the kit 3 time and until recently it had been the best kit I'd done. All...

Coopers Lager - Bottle conditioning help

That's where I put mine to condition when I did the kit about a year ago. Turned out great! The wife wasn't to happy that I'd filled the fridge with 40 odd bottles of beer tho:) In my defense the little beer fridge I have managed to fit the small amount of food and stuff I moved there no...

    coopers mexican cerveza

Which of the extra fermentables did you end up using? Enhancer and sugar or enhancer and DME? The enhancer itself contains DME which isn't 100% fermentable so the more DME that goes in will leave more behind causing the FG to be higher. I did the same kit with muntons beerkit enhancer and an...

what can i use to weigh down my hops?

Maybe a coopers PET bottle? Thicker plastic and the screw top on one of those waaaaaaay better than a plastic milk bottle lid! Or any other 500ml fizzy juice bottle would work. I've used a bag of pennies in a ziplock bag before( actually 4 bags, one inside the other, just to be sure). A...

what can i use to weigh down my hops?

That's a brilliant excuse for not having a spare bucket :)

what can i use to weigh down my hops?

If you are talking about weighing them down I'm assuming you were planning on putting them in a muslin or mesh bag. If you throw them in loose you could always put the bag over the end of your siphon when you are racking the beer. It'll act like a hop filter. This does assume you have a bag and...
