    5kg Digital Scales at Sainsbury's

Just picked these up, reduced to £7.50 in store - http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/scales---measuring/sainsburys-electronic-white-bowl-scale-white-5kg Just tested them and they are pretty accurate, tried with a kilo of oats and a litre of water, was 3g out each time which is...

    What are you drinking tonight?

Only just woke up 20 mins ago but it's fine, I had a lot of water before bed

18% IPA and a 14.3% stout. Both great.

    Recommend a kettle?

There's something wrong with that website but also I think they are out of stock. I'm thinking a 30l bucket so maybe easier to heat with just 2? Just had a quick look, only one I saw was £80 :-( What do you mean by 'upgrading your electric at home'?

    Recommend a kettle?

After 10 days of thinking and looking into it a little I've decided I do want to go down this route :) Any recommendations for cheap elements? I see some that you get out of cheap kettles look a little unfinished, would prefer something that comes with an outer casing.

What do you use to sprinkle sparge water?

I'm still undecided. Definitely want to fly sparge as I just think it'll be easier to just open some taps and let it work. Once I've purchased my kettle, I might just set up the three tier system I'm planning on using and see if I can position a bit of PVC tube in a circle, connected to the...

Just built an Immersion Chiller. Pretty Happy.

All sorted now. I put 3 inch of 10mm ID tubing on the end of the copper then my half inch tube over that, pretty snug fit and took some getting on but it's on. Will use the hose clamps too just for extra seal. Should work fine.

Just built an Immersion Chiller. Pretty Happy.

Yea sorry, that's what I meant by Hose Clamps, still waiting for them to arrive. I have a pretty strong 5l plastic jug that I used to bend round to make a circle, took me about 15-20 mins to finish the bending, it's quite soft and easy to manipulate. Yea I noticed the tube was a little...

What should my first brew be?

Cheers, still learning :) That sounds good, I do love Centennial. I didn't realise you can dry hop with pellets too. Guessing that could clog up the tap on my FV though?

    AG50 RIPa

Looks great to me, I like the hazy NE IPAs. Am I right in thinking Irish Moss is just for clarity and nothing else? Therefore if you don't care about clarity you don't need it?

Just built an Immersion Chiller. Pretty Happy.

Yea 10 metres, have seen people use 20 and make an inner coil and outer but I was happy to just try this way.

Just built an Immersion Chiller. Pretty Happy.

Watched a few videos about making a DIY wort chiller, so thought I'd give it a go. Cheapest I could find for a 10m chiller was £35 + £5.99 delivery, so £40.99. This cost me: Copper - £21.75 inc. delivery Hose - £3 from my local HBS Hose Clamps - £3 inc. delivery Total -...

What should my first brew be?

This is similar to what I have in mind, although I don't know what a pale ale base is  I'll have a look into it. Yea I've seen this and interested in it too but I was thinking more 5%ish for my first go.

What should my first brew be?

Got most of my AG equipment now so time to start thinking about my first brew. Had a look around the recipes and how to's on here but can't find any recommendations for first time recipes. Any things I should not try being a novice? Should I try a kit to start with? My preferred styles are...

What do you use to sprinkle sparge water?

I've seen people using foil and just bucketing the wort/HL on top but I think this is actually more work for me as I have a perfect 3 tier system with the worktop/chair/floor. I just think it's a lot easier to be able to just open a couple of taps and let gravity do all the work. Foil with...

    Pimpin' my Fermentation Cupboard

I was going to recommend this, similar idea to a water cooled PC.

What do you use to sprinkle sparge water?

Wanting a cheap piece of kit for sparging. Read that rotating sparge arms only work well if you use a pump. Been trying to find one of these but can't locate one in UK. Simple to just attach to a hose.
