Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

Cheers guys, seems I need to do a bit more research than I thought. Thanks for the info. Guessing that's one you plumb in? No good for me in a rented flat. I have a hozelock tap connecter for my Wort Chiller that works fine so would just repeat for this, I already have the spare hose and...

Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

We rent so can't really start plumbing unfortunately. I know the one I linked have different types of filters, some that are washable so you only need one that'll last a good while, but not sure about the carbon. Is that something that is needed? You seem to know more about this than I do...

Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

That's not too bad but our closest Tesco is a train ride away and we don't have our car down here. Iceland and Sainsbury's on our street, Iceland is cheapest. I think the filter would save money and also save me lugging 20+ litres of water up two flights of stairs to our apartment every time...

Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

I think for the sake of two quid I'd rather just get the one I posted, would drive me mad having to fill that jug 20+ times on brew day  I wasn't going to plumb it in, I have some 1/2" silicone hose left over from my Wort Chiller build so would just put some 1/2" barbs on either side of...

Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

Seen a lot of people saying to use bottled water as it is going to be better quality than most tap water, I live in London so our tap water isn't great. I'm thinking if I have to buy 5 gallons for each brew, that'll be £5 a time going by Iceland's prices which is just over the road. Not a...

    False bottom for Mash Tun

The 2mm holes on the pic above look about the same size as on my false bottom. Just measured, they are 2mm exactly.

    What are you drinking tonight?

Going to a Goose Island meet the founder meal tonight at their new pub in Balham. Boubon County Brand Coffee Stout served with dessert is what I'm most looking forward to :thumb:

    FV as a Holding Vessel

It's fine, asked the exact same question a couple weeks back as this is what I plan to do also. Seems quite a few people do this exact thing.

    Mash Tun/False Bottom help?

Perfect, thank you :) seems obvious now you've said it. Attached a hose to the tap to a bucket on the floor, dead space is now 225ml. Cheers :thumb:

    Mash Tun/False Bottom help?

Am I doing something wrong? I was under the impressing that using a false bottom with a dip tube would create a syphon and therefore suck up more liquid out of the mash tun. I did a dead space test with just a bazooka filter, it was 2.75 litres. Just tested the false bottom and it is 3.35...

Bal valve tap onto Burco boiler

Maybe try loosening the nuts holding the lever on, might be a bit too tight.

Bal valve tap onto Burco boiler

Lift the little metal ring on the base of the lever to close. I missed that first time too.

    Recommend a Thermometer.

Cheers but I think I've solved my problem. Will probably grab a hand held one too so will check out the Thermapens :thumb:

    Recommend a Thermometer.

This idea actually just came to me this morning too, I will probably get a heat mat at some point and plan to get a fridge at some point so it makes sense.:thumb:

First Beer - Youngs American IPA Kit

Cheers, I actually thought it was an All Grain kit so I guess I won't be buying after all :thumb:

    Recommend a Thermometer.

Looking for a good digital thermometer, as cheap as possible but still want something that'll last. Ideally one with the probe on a wire as I plan to store my FV inside my mash tun to help keep a constant temp, with the probe in there too and the display outside so I can see it.

First Beer - Youngs American IPA Kit

Looks great. Heard it tastes great too. I've been planning for a while what my first brew will be once I've got all my equipment, looking at recipes and thinking what kind of beers I like to make a recipe, but I think I might just get this kit. Guessing it comes with an instruction sheet, etc...

Anybody know? Once I've cleaned with Starsan can I bottle it and use again in say a month?

    AG50 RIPa

Hazy looking is more pleasing to me so I would leave it as it is, but of course you have to do what is necessary with a competition! Looks like a really good recipe, exactly the kind of thing I want to have a go at when I'm up and running with a bit of experience. Interested to hear how it...
