    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

Ah yes, should have said, I put about 3 turns of Teflon tape on mine which has made it water tight. The sled that came with mine is snug enough that you don’t need to recalibrate after each reassembly. Having the board near the lid also makes it easier to charge without pulling the whole sled out.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

Meant to upload this earlier - this is what I ended up with as ballast, I think the bolt is m8, and the nut & washer are m12. There was some advice on the github for the amount of ballast - I think it was 30g but can’t quite remember. I do now have some fine lead shot (from a crash test lab...

I think that bit was reasonably as per the manual. There may have been a URL to enter in the settings too, but otherwise it should just appear in ubidots when you log on (I believe this is what the api key does). You could also use Brewer's Friend, which has instructions on the website on...

Awesome, glad you got there in the end. Just make sure you get some good ballast before you try and calibrate it. In terms of Ubidots, the bit the instructions miss is that you need to sign up for the educational one to get it for free. Try https://app.ubidots.com

    “Black box” stc1000+ mod

Has anyone else built one of these? http://www.blackboxbrew.com/ I’ve got as far as buying the right stc1000, and reprogramming it with the temperature profiles, but need to buy the bits to build it into a box with proper outlets. Once I got the right stc1000 it was pretty straightforward...

OK, I think I've worked out what I did. I downloaded the installer (as pyserial-3.4.tar.gz), then unpacked it into a new folder called pytho in my home directory I then opened terminal, used ls to confirm I was in the home directory, then changed to this new directory and installed it with...

As long as you get over 72 degrees for 2 minutes you will be fine.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I’ll have a look tonight and see if I can work out what I did, but pretty sure I used a sudo command to install it from terminal

    Peltier cooling

    Aaah got you now.

    Peltier cooling

Perhaps I missed something, but isn't that just a pump circulating coolant? A peltier is a rather specific electrically driven cooling/heating device.

Did you install pyserial? I can’t read that very well, but ingot the pyserial error too until I installed it

Anvil stainless bucket vs ss brewtech bucket vs brew builder conical.

Yeah, the anvil is very tempting considering it's a decent chunk of the fermenter for a fraction of the price. Has anyone got any experience with any other stainless fermenters they would recommend?

It was very satisfying when it worked. As soon as I closed the terminal though I wished I’d saved the text so I had a record of what I’d done. You’ll probably need to add some ballast if you bought the kit (I have a large bolt in mine), and you’ll also need to calibrate it before use.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I had the same thing - the wemos doesn't come pre flashed with the ispindel firmware, you have to do it yourself, and it is a pain in the *** to do on a mac (I haven't tried doing it from PC, but most of the articles make it sound much easier, so if you can get access to a PC, or run windows on...

Does it come up as ispindel or something else? Min didn't work until I reflashed the board.

Anvil stainless bucket vs ss brewtech bucket vs brew builder conical.

I was very tempted by one of those too, but I emailed the guy asking if you could replace the thermometer with an inkbird probe, and he said it’s just a surface thermometer, not a thermowell, so you can’t do that. LeeH - what are the major advantages of a full conical?

Anvil stainless bucket vs ss brewtech bucket vs brew builder conical.

So after a couple of years using my fastferment, and a couple of "carryover" flavours, I'm looking at stainless fermenter, mainly for ease of cleaning, and also lack of porosity. Does anyone have experience with one or more of the above? The anvil seems great value for the price, and can take...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

Yes it is. 2 things that might limit doing such big volumes in the maischfest (NB I haven’t tried it so might be taking rubbish) Firstly the grain basket looks like it’s not the full size of the kettle, so not sure what the max volume is. Secondly, without a recirc pump would you be limited...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

I got this one. https://www.klarstein.co.uk/Home-appliances/Drinks-dispenser/Home-brewing/Mundschenk-Mash-Tun-Mash-Kettle-Beer-Brewing-Set-2500W-30l-Stainless-Steel.html The most I’ve done so far is about 6kg, with about 200g of rice hulls to help the flow through the grain bed. I believe the...
