    DIY prosecco

The inkbird is a great bit of kit, I have 2 for my FVs If you’re bottkes are taking a long time to cook in the freezer, try wrapping a wet paper towel / jay cloth around them. That should reduce chilling time to a few minutes.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

Is that easy to do for the relatively computer illiterate? I acquired about a kilo of fine granular lead shot this week from a crash-tested car at work. If anyone needs any ballast I'm happy to stick some in an envelope (I looked for some on a amazon and it was fairly silly expensive).

What were the results for you? Looking at doing this for my me you next brew.

Dark Farm Mini Keg and C02 dispenser - 15% Discount

Hi Gareth Is it possible to set one of these up lying down in the fridge and still use the tap, or do they have to be stood up to pour? Also, which bits are at 25% off as opposed to 15? I clicked the mailing list link from the hbf page, but it doesn't seem to have done anything?

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I had to add about 20g/30g of ballast to mine to get it to that range. From memory I think the guidance was to aim for an angle of ~25 in clear water.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

What sort of range of angles are you getting? My last batch went from about 62 degrees at 1.045 to 33 degrees at 1.012

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I used the degree three one in the setup page on the ispindel (where you put your WiFi details in) From memory you need to change all of the “x”s to “tilt”, and add multiply signs (*) between the number and tilt^3. Alternatively you can just leave the setting on the Spindel and do it all in...

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I used the online calibrator, as it gave a formula for SG instead of plato - maybe worth putting the values you already have from the excel sheet into here and seeing if you get something more usable? http://www.ispindel.de/tools/calibration/calibration.htm

    eBIAB setup

Very smart! Roughly him much did it cost you to build that (and do you need a degree in electrical engineering)?

    eBIAB setup

I’m looking at up-sizing my kettle, as I currently have a 20 litre pot which limits me to half batch for biab, or extract if I want to do a corny full. Ideally I’d like to go for something with an electronic temperature controller, so was thinking of something like this...

    Cheapest cornies?

Keg kingdom have done at £45 a go which I believe is pretty competitive.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

Sounds like what mine did - charging the battery fixed it. For calibration I pressed the reset button a few times then connected to the ispindel hotspot. One of the menus in there gives you a live reading of angle so you don't need to wait for ubidots

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I bought the kit from 3D mechatronics and assembled it. All good apart from the very specific orientation instruction for the battery connector that turned out to be wrong (checked colour against pcb marking too late), and ended up with a fried charger board and temp sensor. I also assumed the...

    Inkbird temp probe placement

I had a fermenter for a while that took a bung with an airlock in it, so used that to achieve a similar result. I froze a bung, drilled a second hole that the probe just fit through (after a healthy amount of lubing up), then wrapped electrical tape around the cable above the bu to make it...

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

I did my first BIAB AG recipe this weekend after a few kits and extract ones. I figured stick to a SMaSH as there will be plenty of time for additions in the future. Went with 1.9kg of Marris Otter and Citra hops at 60, 15, 5, and dry hop, and I now have 8l fermenting in my small fast ferment...

    Sterilisation tips

Does a dishwasher actually get that much liquid inside the bottle, or is the aim to just sterilise by heating the environment? I always assumed the bottle openings would be so small that no significant amount of liquid would actually get in.

    DIY prosecco

My cornys sometimes need a hit of 15-20 psi to seat the lid seals properly. Once they're sealed they seem fine even when the pressure drops quite a bit.

    Kegerator Line Length/Serving Pressure

I had 1.5m of 3/8 at ~12 psi which was coming out very foamy. Cutting 1m out of the middle and swapping in 1m of 3/16 connected with JG fittings seems to have helped a lot, and didn’t require changing of pipe routing or lots of coiled beer line.
