    Brew Fridge Heater Placement

I used to use a bubbler, sometimes it would work but most of the time I couldn't get a decent seal around the lid so it wouldn't make that reassuring plop plop sound. I then bought a new fermenter that didn't have a hole in the lid for the bubbler, so since then, I have completed about 15 brews...

Things I've learned after my third Home Brew

I dropped my shed keys in to my fermenter just before pitching the yeast on my last brew day. I plunged my arm in to fish them out (needed to lock the shed) and was worried I had spoiled the brew. I’m now supping on a lovely keg of Porter, guess I was lucky? My shed keys and key ring are far...

CO2. I can’t remember where I got it delivered from

Yes they are, I used them after your recommendation Hoddy. So much cheaper than anywhere else and fantastic service.

    Hop drying/freezing

Yes, I had a good crop last year from my Fuggle and Progress hop plants. I made some trays to dry them in, just timber with a mesh to allow air movement. I dry them in my garage for about 5 days. I have had an even better year this year and need to make more trays. Once dry, I vacuum seal them...

    Can I......?

A home bar is great fun. I have moved on to a corny set up with 2 cornys so far and will add to that. They are much better than King Kegs. This is my home bar

    Can I......?

Yes you can. I have this set up in my home bar as well as a corny set up. My old king keg has the tap replaced with a ball valve (although you can use the original tap and a jubilee clip on the hose) and it then goes to a Check or Demand Valve (I use this one...

    Trub help, please.

Here is my experience of this topic...... I used to worry about getting the hop debris and break material from the boiler in to the fermenter. So I would whirlpool, wait for it all to settle and then transfer through a hop sock and a sieve with fine mesh material in it to prevent any unwanted...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Here is my Fuggle, its done really well this year. Its in its second year and seems to have a lot more cones than last year. I always struggle with deciding when to harvest them. This year I am going to leave it a little later than last year, so will be picking them next week. I also have a...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

My Fuggle and Progress Hop plants are doing really well in their second year. I had an amazing harvest last year and it looks to be an even better year this year. Looking forward to picking and drying next month.

    King Kegs and pub CO2

I use the universal barrel hose that Gerryjo has linked to in his post. It works very well with my king kegs. I use Cornys for most of my beers, but often dig out an old King Keg when I have too much beer.

    Brewing\pressure barrel?

I've used bottles, King Keg Pressure barrels and Corny Kegs. For me, Corny Kegs are the way to go. The initial set up cost is a bit more than pressure barrels but they are less likely to leak in my experience. I can also force carb in the corny if needed. Just need a dedicated fridge to keep...

Did I waste my money on a plastic Keg ?

The King Kegs are ok, but as Clint says, they need to be fettled to ensure gas tight seals. The usual culprit is the lid, its worth gassing it up and (if it has a s30 valve) spraying soapy water around the lid to see if its leaking. I have had to replace the Pressure Release Valve (small...

    Grain crush

Slid, I just cut some MDF board and screwed it to the lid to make the lid a bit more stiff. I then bolted the mill to the MDF (with a hole obviously). So I just take the lid off once I've finished milling and mash in from that. It works very well, and I like the fact I can adjust the crush...

    Grain crush

I'm another one who has started to mill my own grain. I bought a 2 roller one from Malt Miller and I can adjust the grain crush. It has also pushed up my efficiency from mid 60s to low 80s. This is my setup, its no hassle at all and takes just a few minutes using a cordless drill.

    Photobucket U Turn

It seems that Photobucket has seen sense after getting greedy last year and turned on the 3rd party hosting again. My photos that disappeared on this forum and others have come back again. https://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2018/05/17/photobucket-drops-pricing-that-angered-millions.html Jas

    Mash tun

I built a similar one a couple of years ago. I use a large BIAB sack in it and I never get a stuck mash. I just use 4 small spring clamps whilst doughing in to hold the bag in place. Might be something you want to look into if the bazooka filter doesn’t work well.

    Vacuum pack machine

And another +1 for the Andrew James vacuum machine from me. Seems well made and works well.
