Is anyone using Flavouring Additions in their beers?

I was browsing the Malt Miller website whilst putting an order together today and stumbled across these Flavouring Additions https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product-category/ingredients/flavourings-herbs-spices/ Has anyone ever used any of them? If so, what were they like? I have purchased...

Beer Hawk Sale - 60% off.....

I have ordered a couple of bits and have had confirmation they are on the way to me. I guess I got in early. I had issues during the Black Friday deal a couple of years ago. I bought a stainless pot that was half price, waited a week and it never turned up. When I contacted them, they...

    Member of the year.

I’ll vote for Strange Steve, always has sensible advice and doesn’t try to force his opinions like some people. His knowledge of water treatment is excellent and he describes it very well to novices of this area like me.

Do you consider this Home Brewing?

This like warming up a ready meal and calling it cooking. I really don’t see the point in this stuff, for me home brewing is all about learning how to take basic ingredients and create different beers that you enjoy. For me, the journey is as important as the destination.

Taking the AG plunge at last...

Recipe look ok, its good to keep it nice and simple to start with. My only advice would be to take notes of everything you do, timings, temps etc. It helps with improving for the next brew and helps to understand your equipment setup etc. I'm nearly 30 brews in and I still make detailed notes...

    Improve my mash tun

Yeah, its a simple idea that really works well.

    Improve my mash tun

Rather than fit a filter to your tap, have you thought about using a large nylon bag? I have a cheap Tesco 24 litre coolbox that I have converted to a mash tun. All I have done is fitted a ball valve, filled the voids with insulation and then I use a BIAB type of bag in it. I never have a...

    Corny newby kit?

I have used Malt Miller for their Corny set up. You can see a break down of what's needed here.... https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/complete-used-keg-setup/ The kegs I have got from them have been very good quality considering they are second hand.

    Bulldog grain mill

I think it depends on what mill you have? I have a Malt Miller 2 roller mill and my cheap old Hitachi battery drill turns it no problem, doesn't even slow down and mills 5 kg of grain in a few minutes. With it attached to an old fermenter there is no dust and my efficiency has gone up about...

    Bulldog grain mill

My mill has 2 rollers, one is driven by the handle/drill and the other is completely independent and spins freely. I think this is what you are asking? If so, then yes it works very well and mills quickly. You don't need to have the 2 rollers connected for it to work.

    Bulldog grain mill

I don't have a Bulldog mill, but it looks very similar to the 2 roller mill from Malt Miller that I have. I'm surprised a battery drill won't turn it? As for controlling the dust..... I attached mine to the lid of an old fermenter with a piece of MDF to stiffen up the lid. When its milling I...

    Black Friday Deals?

I had problems with Beer Hawk on last years Black Friday. Bought quite a few bargains and had confirmation of the sales, the items hadn’t turned up after a week or so and when I contacted them, they said they were out of stock. Had to wait until the new year for my purchases to arrive. I got...

    40 pint plastic pressure kegs

If the cap has the fitting for taking a CO2 bulb, then it will have the little band around the base of the fitting, this is the pressure release valve.

    40 pint plastic pressure kegs

The tap shouldn't be leaking, so that needs replacing if its the tap itself, or look at the seal around the tap. The lid should have a pressure release valve, just a hole with a rubber band over it. These are rated at approx. 15psi. You shouldn't be venting the keg.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Well I have had a fantastic year for Hops. My Fuggle produced 1.6KG dried and my Progress produced 1.1KG dried. Both plants are in their second year. I've got so many hops I don't know what to do with them! Must brew more beer...….

    Have some hops coming

I grow my own hops. What I do is dry them out for a few days until they feel dry. I then vacuum seal them and then freeze them. I brewed yesterday using last years crop and the hops looked and smelt just fine after a year stored like this.

    Cooling times with immersion chiller

I think a copper cooler would be better than a stainless one as copper dissipates heat better? I swirl mine around as its cooling and it takes about 30 mins in the summer and 20 mins in the winter when the tap water is cooler. I have looked at counter flow chillers and plate chillers, but the...
