It would seem some people arnt happy unless they are moaning about something. It's always someone else's fault, we are all so hard done by yadda yadda..... yawn.....

    Hops

I don't add hops at 30 mins, I use bittering hops at 60 mins and then taste/aroma at 15 mins and flame out. I use brewing software to calculate amounts.

    New Here

I'm down in Fareham You can get most ingredients locally and you can reuse malt in various ways. I'm not sure if a totally solar powered brew house is possible though? All grain brewing uses a lot of energy. I'd like to see it done though.

    New Here

Hi, welcome from another Hampshire brewer. What do you want to achieve from sustainable brewing? How far do you want to take it? It's an interesting concept. Jas

    R.I.P Bradley Lowery

I too shed a few tears with a massive lump in my throat when I read this news this afternoon. He certainly touched the heart of many people around the world. The real shame is that there are many more kids like Bradley. My son was diagnosed with Cancer aged 3 years old, he is 11 now and I am...

A Useful Resource: How To Brew, by John Palmer

I have just purchased the 4th edition from Amazon. It's nearly 600 pages and full of interesting info. A very good book for beginners and experienced brewers in my opinion.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

This is my first go at growing hops. Planted them out in April and they took off like a rocket. The one closest is a Fuggle and the one at the back next to the water butt, climbing along the fence is a Progress. Its their first year so not expecting much of a crop but its great to see them grow...

    Gambrinus honey malt

I've been keeping an eye out for some for the last year without success. I have an aunty who lives about 5 miles from the Gambrinus maltings in British Columbia and got her to send over a couple of pounds of the Honey Malt a few months ago. The postage is a killer. I have brewed with it and...

Why have I given up wine making at home?

This ^ I would brew my own even if it worked out more expensive than buying it in the shop/boozer. I love this hobby.....

    Which CO2 injector equipment?

I use both S30 CO2 cylinder and the 8g bulbs in my King Kegs. I prefer the S30 cylinder as its cheaper in the long run and I can also regulate how much gas to put in. Once I have filled the barrel, I give it a quick blast with the S30 cylinder and then purge the air out. I like the King...

What kit / system do you use?

I use a DIY 3 vessel system. I made the HLT and boiler from plastic fermenters with kettle elements and the Mash Tun is converted from an Ice box. Its a great system that I like using as I have plenty of room to brew in without upsetting anyone. I am currently upgrading my boiler using a...

    one supplier or shop around?

If I had a local HB shop that stocked everything I needed then I would use it. My nearest shop is only a couple of miles away but they only really cater for kit brewing. They have small amounts of grain and hops but not what I need. Its a shame as I like to support local business where I can...

    Brewday with blackjack brewery

Sounds like a great day. Always like plenty of pictures of breweries. It is always interesting to see how their procedures differ from home brewers.
