Hmmm - i think I will revert to brewing in the back garden next to the bib tap - all this talk of legionella and 750mm deep pipes etc has scared me off
Thanks for the great advice though
I have had the same tang I on all three of my Wherrys - its called the forweak syndrome and the cure is leaving it to condition for four weeks when the tang will magically dissipate into thin air leaving you with a lovely, malty, untangy treat of a drink!!
I wouldnt worry about it - give it two weeks in secondary and then at least a month in the cool before writing it off.
I have found that my wherry changes massively after 3/4 weeks of good cool conditioning.
Cheers PD - will he make as many as wanted for the £90??
I have started to notice the theory of beer gifts saving money - my plumber came round on an emergency call out on Sunday night, replaced a pipe and a valve all for the princely sum of 8 bottles of Stout ;)
Basically I want to be able to do a full brew from the garage - only problem is there is no water source.
We have a bib tap at the back of the house but the garage is at the front so i was thinking of running a hose to the side of the garage drilling through the wall and putting a bib tap...
I did a stock take last weekend and I have 215 bottles of ale, lager, cider, another 46 in the FV and 38 in secondary.
I dont drink a lot so would probably last me until cristmas, but I just cant stop brewing as I enjoy the process so much.
I am doing a Paulaner Hefe Weissbier clone on Sunday.
3kg German Wheat Malt
2.5kg Pale Malt
150g Dark Munich Malt
35g Hallertau Hersbrucker
Wyeast 3056 Bavarian Wheat Yeast
90 min mash at 65.5
90 min boil with hops from the start
24l into fermenter
5.4% ABV
IBU 10
SRM 5-6
Simple but should...
It's strange how tastes change after homebrewing for a while.
i tried 3 bottled beers from Asda over the weekend and one went down the sink, half of another went down the sink and i just about managed to drink the third one - they just didnt taste of anything - they advertised as being well...
Agreed - in the space of a couple of weeks this brew changes from a cloudy, fairly vinegary type of brew to a lovely smooth, crystal clear pint of velvet loveliness
