Can you make Elderflower and Elderberry wine from the porphyrophylla species of elderflower. This is the one with pink flowers and very dark leaves.

Oneconcept / Hopfengott 30l Mash Kettle mash kettles

Hi @Gulpitdarn. I've just ordered one of these 15L HopfenGotts, I think it arrives tomorrow. I wondered if you have any dialled in stats for your system that I can use in the equipment profile for a Brewfather recipe? Boil off rate; mash tun dead space; loss to trub on transfer to FV. Any info...

Where are you getting your yeast from?

Thanks everyone. I've ordered some Kiwi pale ale yeast. I've not seen that before, but it looked interesting.

Where are you getting your yeast from?

Where is everyone getting their yeast from at the moment? I normally get mine from Crossmyloof, but they are closed for lockdown.

    Grainfather Connect for sale

Very sad to have to get rid of this lovely bit of kit, but we are downsizing and don't have storage anymore. So I am selling my Grainfather Connect, and maybe going back to small scale stovetop brews. I am having pangs of regret as I type this. It will be three years old next month (bought...

    Soft tubing (non coiling)

I had the same problem with tubing from the Fv to bottling bucket. I ended up buying a length of 12mm (which I think is 0.5") silicon tube from the MaltMiller. It is 12mm inner diameter but quite a thick outer diameter, so stays vertical into the bucket, but not rigid like PVC. I'm very happy...

    Do you use nucleated glasses?

I have some with and some without, and I choose the glass to suit the brew. If I've over-carbonated I use the non-etched glasses, and if it's a bit flat I use the etched ones. I think that I read that head retention is a mixture of carbonation plus protein in the beer that hold the head...

all in one systems but no easy water source

Yes, @Rodcx500z is correct, there is a LOT of steam. I have my Grainfather at the front of the garage with the doors open for the steam to escape. But it does still make everything damp in the garage.

all in one systems but no easy water source

I have a similar set up, and fill the Grainfather (for the mash) using a big plastic jerry can which I carry to the garage from my kitchen. You only need to connect directly to a tap for cooling the wort with the Grainfather's excellent counter-flow chiller. I use a hose from my outside tap to...

    Help Needed

I just bought a crate of german lager in brown 0.5L swing tops from my-food-online.net. It's a German site. Beer is very cheap, delivery to the UK is quite steep. With delivery it worked out at £39.50 for a crate of 20, including delivery and the crate. Not too bad I thought, since similar...
