Just sparge more for same resulting volume but less tannins. The water you add will push the sugary water out.

What if we sank a filter over the pump inlet just before adding whirlpool hops? E.g. like using one of the circular mesh plates from the malt pipe? Is the diameter of the mesh large enough to cover the inlet no matter where it lands? I'd like to use the bottom drain to transfer from instead of...

    Life & Death

Anthony Barrett ex Vocation said it's based on Heady Topper which I find very interesting! See 11:17 in Daftaboutcraft - Craft Beer Podcast - Twisted Wheel BONUS EPISODE (February 2, 2023)

    Buckingham Stock Pot

I got the 5pc set for £21.49. The handle rivets leak and the metal is very thin however that makes it easy to bend the handles off and drill holes in the bottom for a grain basket to build your own all-in-one - the 28cm 15L fits perfectly inside the Qualtex 20L tea urn QUAMIS883 once the plastic...

    Dry hopped equals grassy taste?

Cascade has very high levels of Cohumulone http://www.lugwrenchbrewing.com/2011/11/cohumulone-rages-by-hop-variety-hop.html And it's possible that the lower temps during cold-crashing the dry-hops brings out maximum Cohumulone woody taste.

    Dry hopped equals grassy taste?

To me grassy tastes like woody bitter astringency. I get it when I dry hop for a short time after fermentation has ended, e.g. on day 3 for 3 days. If I add the dry hops on day 1 for 6 days then there is no grassy. I split the batch in my last brew to figure this out. My theory is either the...

    NEIPA oxidation

I had a problem with bitter aftertaste before I did water treatment. And solved it in either one or a combination of the following: The lighter grain bill may not have been naturally acidifying the mash enough and the high Ph (7 or 8 of my water supply) resulted in bitter tannins being...

    Verdant Putty

The trick is to use plastic bottles and squeeze all the air out before tightening cap. Works like magic!

    NEIPA oxidation

Seems the air in the head-space of the bottle is the enemy (and/or auto-syphon valve bubbles) Anyone tried filling their bottles to the brim? Or using plastic bottles squeezed and filled to brim to allow CO2 fill the head-space?

    IIPA - James; the Legend

I was thinking of immersion chilling carefully to 80 C, turning off the water flow to the chiller then adding the hops, lid on but stirring occasionally for as long as possible until either the hops drop or it hits 60 C (will see which happens first, might be able to insulate the boiler to keep...

    Burco 30ltr boiler (tea urn)

You must have got it before the new safety feature was introduced, now they all have to cut off at 93 degrees, e.g. Burcos and Buffalo. You can identify them with number 1 to 6 dials rather then degrees 30 - 110. Obviously they couldn't put a dial with 100 on it if it would never reach that...

Using an "ACE" tea urn as a mash tun.

It's out now as "Ace Mash Tun" on ebay for about £150 depending on the accessories. One version has a bazooka and another has a false bottom. Unfortunately they refer to both as a "bottom filter" so be careful to order the right one. Ideally you would want both but they don't offer that...

    Qualtex Boiler

Got a 20L one of these today £45.99 from lmelectrical on ebay (Qualtex's ebay store). Thermostat slightly off, e.g. set at 75, temp was 83. Setting 100 gives rolling boil but probably best to set it to past 110 to be sure it stays on. Thus does not have a 97 degree cut-off like...

Steel tap kit for Burco boiler.

Cool, I wasn't able to find a 1/2" tap with 1" back, any chance you could post a link to one? Thanks

    Ace micro brewer

Old version of Bulldog brewery is currently £335 includes a chiller (immersion not counterflow though). The pump is external which means it can be used for other purposes. Disclaimer, never used the Bulldog or ordered from thebrewshop.com Personally I think the Ace should be priced at...

    Burco 30ltr boiler (tea urn)

I'm interested in making the Burco do a constant boil while also keeping the thermostat in the circuit (for sparge temps).

    Burco 30ltr boiler (tea urn)

It's hard to tell from the JPEG compression but the thermostat looks like it has the number 55.13022.050 which has a temperature control range: 30 ~ 110 C
