I guess those that responded are the more serious road cyclist on here. I have read articles by cycling Doctors that drops prevented fatigue with different hand positions hence different body positions - not convinced that it makes that much difference. Going downhill the more aero obviously the...

Very good - but being a grumpy miserable git I could have done without the music. I am intrigued with the choice of handle bars., obviously lighter, more aerodynamic and can probably get more leverage on them so seems a good choice. The question I ask is why do road bikes nearly always have...

    Elections.

Could hardly give my Grans house away 55 years ago - nobody wanted it stuck out in the sticks, now its very much a different story, the whole immediate area is much sought after. Its not just London where prices have escalated. I wonder how the ethical standard of politics has changed over...

Wedding anniversary today so to celebrate??! . We've been out and done the longest distance for years 28.9 miles or 46.5 Km (sounds more), 1450 ft climbing, a third off road and two pub stops, 3 pints in total. (for me) - Luckily its a heated up curry tonight so not too much prep.and washing up!

Ban on new petrol and diesel cars in UK from 2030 under PM's green plan

Excluding heat pumps as they will be difficult to install in the newly built mass housing estates with practically no garden, will electric boilers be the solution? Where each house has solar panels feeding electricity back into the grid when not required Long distance trucks/large vans is a...

Cyclists! Can I watch the Giro free?

I do enjoy ITV cycle coverage - nice balance of knowledgeable comments and periods of just allowing one to watch the racing. Think it was Eurosport, continuous stream of shouting commentary - not for me

Is this better than tap water?

Anyone know how to list Severn Trent's water composition? I cannot find how

    The Homebrew Twang experiment.

The wife had the same -tyre had perished! (Not suggesting any of the above suffered from the same cause) Knew it was getting past it but we were only nipping to a pub so risked it

I use the Komoot app, more for its record aspect but also it gives an approx record of the gradient climbed/descended plus gives you your real time speed. If a route is pre-planned it will give turn by turn sound navigation, (plus it ignores pub stops in its average speed presentation!) Share...

What do we think about the whole independence thing in general?

One point I think has been overlooked is all MPs vote in Westminster on matters pertaining to England but the other countries have their own assemblies to decide their own specific issues. It was a mish mash before Brexit , its a real mess now. This is solely my own observations - where I have...

Polcho re back box. When I needed a box I found a shopping wire basket - it was just the job to carry produce, just zip tied it to the rear rack, . Galana If mid May a black Wester Ross touring bike comes by you, followed by a lady on an Crossfuse electicic bike say 'hello' (No chance of it...

I think that's Thor's cave in one of your shots Galena, so the photo taken near Grindon? Cycled those lanes last summer starting from a small campsite near the A52. Great lanes and wonderful scenery. Usually try for a round trip pulling in a coffee at Ilam Hall and/or a couple of pints at the...

    The Great Watney's debate

I am pretty sure I had a pint of recreated DD a couple of years ago at the NBC in Burton, it was ok - not something to get excited about but it was drinkable.

Golden Stag (Festival) kit form Brew UK

If I were you I would reprime and bottle the beer, its no good pumping CO2 into the PB if its leaking, the beer should be ok. Re taking hydrometer reading I run a drop of beer off into a hydrometer 'cylinder' take the reading then dispose of the cylinder contents - by drinking it (waste not want...

Ok loads of bikes about so Where do you cycle - area, chosen terrain, how far and what age. For my part mixture of roads and cycle tracks take hills as they come, now 15 - 25 miles (used to manage 60 to 80 and the odd 130 back in the day), was 30 then now hitting 3 score and 10

    Recommend a brewery tap.

In these 'stay safe' times I can wholeheartedly recommend the Tollgates tap at the 'Milking Parlour'. (On a nice sunny afternoon). Its outside area is large with building on all four sides so well protected from the wind. Its situated on National Trust land part of the Calke estate. Great walks...

Best way to get a label off a bottle

Re labels - getting mine to stick and last a year in the garage is a problem - not wanting to stick them so I cannot remove them when the time comes

    Sub-postmasters cleared.

Got a friend that was accused of fiddling - don't think she was ever charged but she was forced out of the Post Office she ran. Her husband is adamant that it was that that triggered her Alzheimer's condition. Unfortunately her condition is such that she can no longer understand day to day...

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

Mine are doing ok - one variety is long, thin and hot, no idea what they are, plus Cayenne and Habanero. Trouble is I had a good germination and now its finding space to grow them. Wife made a chutney out of last years crop - its a brave man that takes a tea spoon full. Making me sweat thinking...
