How long would you keep a yeast starter for?

You can keep it for a good while, it won’t go off (to a degree) if stored properly. Yeast cell viability falls away somewhat during prolonged storage. To the point where building the cell count back up to the appropriate amount because economical unviable due to the cost of DME vs buying a...

    Keezer Build

You should be good. Wiring should run horizontally or vertically, best way is to drill a smaller hole and then fish about the insulation material with a screwdriver or the like and see. If all is good, keep going.

Thanks @foxy, appreciate it. Spent a good few hours typing up all the scores and feedback. Not to mention taking a day off work to judge the competition (was the only day/chance that worked in with the both of us). All beers which were flawed, we gave our opinions on what it may be and what...

That’s the only opportunity when judging could be done. Work gets in the way of things, as you could appreciate I’m sure? And beers were only sat around for as long as the entrants wished. Made it common knowledge in the middle of Jan that judging wouldn’t be happening until at least 4 weeks later.

I agree about the scoring, in terms of it being irrelevant. The best beers won regardless what number was put against it. As regards to being harsh, no - we weren’t. There just wasn’t any outstanding, excellent or very good beers... Not going to score a beer as excellent if it simply wasn’t...

Even with the delay (which was only a few weeks) - it wouldn’t make all that much difference. It’s not like the beers were judged months and months after being bottled. Award winning? Scoring was fair and honest I felt. No point in scoring a beer as good or great if it just isn’t. Good and fair...

    Corny keg won’t seal....

Keg lube (basically expensive Vaseline) will likely help.

Not really what Leon, I don’t understand what you’re getting at? Notable flaws were picked up in a number of beers and feedback given to the brewers. No I wouldn’t expect every APA to be a massive hop bomb, of course not. But overall the aroma and flavour for the bulk of entries was generally...

    Hangover Discussion

All the “cures” and solutions is cute, but we know they don’t work. A true blooter will leave you in a state of disrepair wherein you can’t even hold water down. So saying fruit smoothies or electrolyte tablets fixes a hangover is simply not true. It just means the hangover isn’t bad enough...

There was, to the two of us tasting anyway, a weird taste that was almost like old dough, yeasty, off-like flavour. Certainly one that we felt shouldn’t have been there. It may have just been the one bottle, it may have been from the bottle itself. Something picked up along the way possibly? No...

Both really. Ultimately the beers that won were the ones that tasted the best. Beers that scored poorly were ones that had flaws, regardless of style really, they would still have been flawed.

No problem pal! Haha, it might seem that the judges well all full of the cold but wasn't the case. When was the beer bottled? If you're additions were solely flameout and DH. It's possible they've diminished drastically. Flameout hop additions, going from personal experience, often tend to be...

    Wood burners

Wtf is wet wood? It's seasoned or unseasoned. Simple. One will burn in a stove happy, the other won't - to the point where you'd throw it into the garden half ablaze in frustration. I don't like it when people who don't understand attempt and/or succeed in making things a lot more complicated...
