    Positioning HERMS coil in HLT

Element at the bottom of the HLT for the best dissipation of heat through the HLT water. As your re-circing the HLT water anyway, the temperature throughout your HLT water should be very consistent, if not uniform. The most critical part you should consider is placement of your thermocouples...

    Posting wine samples

I've had breakages though. So will probably stump up the 15p in future...

    Keeping beer fizzy in bottles

The tap cooler is better than the beer gun. Not only that, it’s also easier to use and less intrusive. I’ve used bothwink...

    going to keg

The tap cooler counter pressure bottle filler is excellent. When it comes to cleaning my beer lines, Unscrew the JG fitting from the tap shank and leave it all soaking overnight in hot soapy water. The same treatment with the taps from time to time too. My method removes the need to pump...

Whirlpool/mixing while cooling using a power drill

I use a paint stirrer on a combi drill for doughing in, best £3 I've ever spent! Pretty sure it would work for a whirlpool as well, although I'd rather go for the pump version myself.

January Forum Comp - American Pale Ales

Not sure bud as I'm not home until Friday. Will more than likely be at the sorting office waiting for me to collect.

    Best DIY airlock

Blow off tube is about as good as you're going to get. Terry is right though, shouldn't be an O2 issue if you leave the lid cracked and don't disturb the FV at all. CO2 will sink on top of the beer and not allow O2 to come in contact.

Ready to get the G70 but what else is needed? -- Help please :)

Another thing worth considering is the volume... I wouldn't personally want to brew individual batches bigger than 23L because I like to change things up each time. A lager one brew, pale the next, stout, etc. Ending up with 50L of the one type of beer would mean less frequent brew days which...

Ready to get the G70 but what else is needed? -- Help please :)

WiFi is daft IMO. The best part about brewing is the process. Would bother me to disappear and miss out on all the action!

January Forum Comp - American Pale Ales

Gentlemen, this may be good or bad news - depends on how you see it. Due to work commitments, judging will now be taking place in exactly 3 weeks time; afternoon of Friday 21st Feb. This is the first available instance in which @Ray1314 and myself can meet and we both look very much forward to...

Thanks Chippy, just received a message from Harry so it looks like he's spammed his way to a useable inbox:thumba:

Hello Harry and welcome to the forum! Yes of course, but I'm unable to send you my address details because you have too few forum posts... @Chippy_Tea, is there a means to pass on postage details to Harry without having to publicly post my address on the open forum?

    Dry hopping

It's hard to tell from your posted photo just how low your outlet actually is; and where the trub line is. If you racked beer from the top, it would allow you to throw in DH's loose. Which negates the need for a nylon bag, extra sanitising step, potentially less surface area contact and AA...

    Clarity...

It's Wyeast Pilsen 2007 which is medium floc. Given it's a bottom fermenting yeast by default (and I racked from the top) I'd be surprised if I got much transferred across, especially with a cold crash. Nevertheless time will tell!

    New intended dedicated brewery

Sounds amazing! I have too much stuff in my garage and no space for a dedicated shed. Are you intending on cutting a drainage channel into the floor and having a camber as to let the water flow there? This would make cleaning a doddle! I'd have a good think about your fermentation space, IMO...

    Clarity...

Confident it's not as for a large period of the cold crashing - the ambient temperature was lower than the keezer temperature. The slight haze remains when the beer warms too. It was only in the keg for a week, so I'm going to be interested to see whether it drops clear in time.

    Clarity...

Gents, here's one which is a little bit of a head-scratcher... Kegged a lager a few weeks back which was the clearest beer I've made to date; gently racking from the top and did a very good job if I don't say so myself:laugh8: This one I was extra cautious about as to bring nothing but beer...

    brew stuck at 1020

Gently stirring with a sanitised spoon is the correct method. @Dutto, your technique would be sound for a stuck fermentation at a much higher gravity, i.e. closer to OG. As already mentioned, I'd be wary of introducing oxygen to the beer via aggressive stirring when you're likely within 0.010...
