What kit is it? How does it taste?its got a great head and colour.

To pimp up or not to pimp up?

The Wherry kit is two can and produces a delightful malty ale, I wouldn’t pimp it personally. The Wilko IPA will definitely be improved with further hops, even just 50g added 50% during fermentation and 50% after, or all after. 100g even better.

New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring

Just read this thread which started almost a year ago! The only kit brewing I do is Cwtch because it’s soo good and also made by Muntons as you know. Just going to order the hazy and the west coast and throw my grainfather in the loft till next year because these will see me out of 2021 with...

    Renaissance Impressions Nebbiolo

Thought I’d share a review on this kit as I don’t see any at all for Renaissance Kits by Mosti Mondial, a Canadian manufacturer who produce a lot for the USA. First up, I’m a beer brewer, I used to do wine kits when I was a kid but they were invariably bad so I stopped decades ago. A pal was...

    All in one cleaning tips

Pretty much this ^ I tend to brew a lot in the winter, got three more to do in the spring then I’ve got a years worth in bottles. I’ll run a big clean with sodium percarbonate before I throw the gf in the loft for 6 months. Soapy scrub then on its side to rinse with a hose is a great method.

    What do you think?

Put 2ml in a litre of water and test the ph, if it’s 3.5 or below it’s ok, or at least I’d use it.

    Dry hopping

If you use them loose, and I would personally, you’ll need to strain them out when transferring to your bottling bucket. Cold crashing helps but you won’t clear them fully in your timescale. Have you got an Aldi nearby? Ours do big mesh bags in the veg aisle for 25p, ideal for straining or...

    Woodfordes Nog

Each 500g of sugar should give you 1% in 23l, 500g of dme should give you 0.75%. I’d use dme to keep the body and taste better but it’s a lot more expensive

Cwtch - to fine or not to fine....

I’ve got a Cwtch in the bottling bucket ready to bottle Saturday, I've done it many many times and it’s never muddy, that’s just down to poor technique. Tbh you’ve done exactly as I do, strained to the bucket through a mesh sock tied to the end of the tube, I think I got the little sock in a...

How long have you been brewing for?

Brewed kits in the 80s they were terrible I used a brew belt and if I think back I reckon the FV was running about 30 degrees or more. Started kits again four years ago after finding this forum, First one was a Wherry, a few pimped Wilkos stout, evil dog ipa, some brewferm belgians then about 6...

    Bottle colour

The trick is not have any sediment other than a film of yeast on the bottom of the bottle, I can all but empty a bottle without getting anything in the glass other than beer.

    Bottle colour

I pour from bottles under the kitchen cabinet light, as I pour the last third slowly I can easily spot when the sediment is in the neck f the bottle and stop pouring

Grainfather counterflow connection to kitchen tap

If you get a couple of metres of this https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/silicone-tubing-12mm-id/ It fits tight over the hozelock tap adaptor nipple as well, so you can fill your gf and HLT straight from the hot tap. Also you’ll never go back to pvc tube again, trust me. Then! If you cut a...

Grainfather counterflow connection to kitchen tap

The two parts on the cf chiller came with the gf, so I got a hozelock tap adaptor, a bit of hose and two female connectors, cable tied the cf chiller end just to keep it secure.

    Old Tom

Here’s mine, pretty similar to yours, I had some Candy Sugar to use up, included some oats for body and used a bit of magnum for bittering. It’s bottled about 4 weeks and will be ready to drink over Christmas, I sampledone a week ago it was very moreish indeed. I think I got 1.076 down to 1.016...
