    Mangrove Jack's Pink grapefruit IPA

I am close to bottling this kit but am slightly confused. I used LME and the chart of target FG says I should end at 1.012. The last sample, yesterday, was at 1.013. Bubbling was slowing so I used a belt to increase temperature to 23c (external thermometer strip) and turned off the belt...

    Dry hopping idea

I did read the article about the short time needed for flavour extraction and I read that leaving hops in there too long can lead to undesirable flavours - these both being factors in designing this idea. The bag will reduce contact with the ale but hopefully the occasional gentle agitation over...

    Dry hopping idea

I went ahead as described as I read on here several times that it’s good to experiment! The gravity had reached 1.015 against a target of 1.012, and bubbling had dropped to about every 70 seconds. The instructions say to dry hop after 7 days if gravity is at 1.025 or below. I was not going to...

    Dry hopping idea

My hops sank in the NZP and Razorback and after using the strainer bag provided with the Festival kits no hops entered the bottle bucket. I get a perfectly clear pint with the Razorback and just a little chill haze with the Pilsner. So this wasn’t as much about straining the hops as ensuring...

    Dry hopping idea

Hi, I am new to home brewing after one brew 30 years ago (which went well but I was too busy). I have done 3 brews and am on the fourth. The Munton IPA was ruined by brewing in the heatwave (20 litres at 5.5% ish available in Halifax if anyone wants it for distilling). The next, Festival NZ...

    My own brewery

Are you going to insulate it? I built a shed and insulated all round, above the ceiling and below the (timber) floor - it was easy enough with Kingspan sheets and is surprisingly effective with just 50mm thickness.

    How long to keep hops?

I am waiting for more detail but will ask how they have been stored, hopefully frozen but as I said I suspect not - one photo shows them in sealed foil packs but some of the packs have been opened and they are offered at £1 for 125grams. I don’t want the ones that have been opened and am...

    How long to keep hops?

Ok, 36 views and no advice - my fault maybe I need to clarify! If I am offered hops that are 4 years old but in sealed bags (not frozen) are they likely to be ok for another year or two (or more?) if I freeze them when I open the packs?

    How long to keep hops?

Hi all, is there a general rule of thumb as to how long hops will last in a sealed foil bag? (Not pelleted) thanks in advance

    Mangrove Jack's Pink grapefruit IPA

Thanks PP, that’s really interesting - I would never have thought of anything so audacious! For now I’ll take Ghostship’s recommendation but will have a go at your suggestion as confidence builds...

    Mangrove Jack's Pink grapefruit IPA

Hi Irish, I’m intending to try this. What did you end up doing and how did it turn out? cheers

    Bottling

Tesco’s sell 2litre fizzy water at 17p a bottle, so if you are happy to drink 2L at a time then they’re cheap bottles! I bought 10 of the 2L still water bottles (also 17p) to use for a batch of elderflower champagne - first time and not tasted it yet, but my point is that the bottles are taking...
