    Stalled fermentation ?

I had the Young’s AIPA stall completely at the same point (1.014). I gently stirred - no effect. Then I stirred right down into the trub and it started up again but very slowly. I eventually reached 1.007 6 weeks after pitching! I have read many reports of slow fermentation with this kit.

    Festival World New Zealand Pilsner

There is are some good threads on here re dry hopping. I don't do all grain yet, but that includes adding hops at different stages of boiling the wort to add flavours and bitterness. In a kit that has been done already. Hops or hop pellets are included in a kit usually to add certain volatile...

    Festival World New Zealand Pilsner

I did this earlier this year as my first brew after a 30 year layoff. I added the hops after 6 days in accordance with the instructions - but then it took another 15 days to reach FG. It turned out to be a very nice pint but I wish I had dry hopped much later. I expected a little more hopiness...

    Brew years resolutions?

    1. Get ahead of the game (brew a larger stock), be patient and leave to properly develop before drinking (my last 2 bottles of Razorback were fantastic. The first 38 were good but not great); 2. Resist the temptation to brew just the best of the kits I brewed in my first year back to brewing...

    Young's American IPA advice

I just bottled mine after 6 weeks! Bubbling completely stopped after the first week and didn’t move for another 5 days, although I think there may be a very slight leak around the fermenter lid so that perhaps it was moving ever so slowly. Stirring gently got it going again but very slowly...

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Just had the last of my bottles of Razorback that I bottled at the end of July - very smooth and balanced. My pal said he’d be delighted to be served that in a pub. I drank most of it by mid September when it was good but has clearly improved since then. We also had a President’s Sierra APA that...

Very slow fermentation Youngs American ipa

Mine has been going 6 weeks! A week ago it was at 1.010. I was going to check it today but ran out of time. It has sat from 22c when fermenting vigorously down to a constant 20c since. Before wasting the hops I’m going to have a taste to check for off flavours. This seems to be an issue with...

T.V comedies you never got into.

Only Fools and Horses. People (including Northerners) tell me it was superb so I bought the full boxed set about two years ago. Still haven’t watched it though 😁

    Swing top bottles

I missed out on 32 Grolsch bottles in 2 crates on eBay today. My meeting ran over and they were snapped up for £10.50, duh!!! They were in a lovely remote area about 1.5 hours away but we had decided we’d make a day out of it with a walk and a picnic. I’ll keep watching out as I do like the...

    Youngs American IPA Help

The photo of the hydrometer appears to me to show 1.008 or 1.010 (depending on whether yours reads at the top or bottom of the meniscus. Most read at the bottom apparently, mine reads true at the top (calibrated in tap water)). Or was the photo an earlier reading and you were just illustrating...

Richie’s Simply Ginger Beer Kit advice

Thanks Ron, I had read that the ginger flavour was weak. It may not improve matters but I will tip a fair amount of ginger juice in there. And next time I’ll buy the Coopers

Richie’s Simply Ginger Beer Kit advice

Hi Jcaan, I’m just starting this one off, also for the Mrs! How did yours turn out and did you add anything? I’m thinking of letting it ferment and then draw off a sample to taste before bottling. If not strong enough I have in mind grating fresh ginger and squeezing the pulp to get the juice...

    Are these Sloes?

I was talking to a dairy farmer recently. They have a camp site on the farm and offer tours. An adult on one of the tours asked her in all seriousness which were the cows that made the semi skimmed milk!

    Are these Sloes?

Thanks to this thread I am now having to relabel the 10 bottles of “Howden Sloe Gin” that we will be giving as Christmas presents. Our friend, owner of an orchard in Howden, told us that we could pick her sloes. The new label will read “Howden Bullace Gin” We made it a year ago and it has...
