    Who's Brewing tomorrow?

After months of reading, and help from @strange-steve, I've only just got my head round the water treatment, but it does make a massive difference. Mineral values for Pilsen water profile are so low that it's impossible to adjust my hard water to replicate it

    Who's Brewing tomorrow?

Sparge time Also pressure transferring my attempt at an Enville ale copy (honey ale) - bit darker than the original but it's got a lovely honey taste and aroma - it's not going to last long

    Who's Brewing tomorrow?

Just did last minute water additions to the Kolsch - was going to use straight up Ashbeck with lactic acid for pH adjustment, then read Brungard talking about bumping up the calcium in the mash to 40ppm then straight Ashbeck for sparge to dilute, so a massive 0.4g addition each of gypsum and...

First brew upcoming - sparging question

I wouldn't bother blocking it Luke, I don't even put the lid on mine.

First brew upcoming - sparging question

This photo shows it in action, if it's too much to lift the fermenter that high (27 litres in there) put about 15/20 litres in then jug in the rest

First brew upcoming - sparging question

That's right, I use a 50 litre boil kettle and a mash tun, with a fermenter as a makeshift HLT. Heat your strike water in boiler, mash in, then heat water for sparge in boiler, transfer to fermenter/hlt.

    Buffers Brewery Wort Transfer System

That is one pimped fermenter! Great solution to avoid lifting all that weight, I'm currently designing a slightly larger version of that to move my boiler around the garage without any lifting

    Bread ****

Anyone for a cinnamon swirl? My first attempt at baking anything bread related - had to break out the vintage Kenwood Chef! Batters the dough with the dough hook!

    Honey instead of sugar.

    Abracadabra! Carbonation!

Control panel build - the cheaper version!

I’ve recently completed my rebuild of my control panel box. Over the years I’ve lusted after a control panel like the Electric Brewery, but the costs involved (and the complicated wiring) have always put me off. I'm watching HopSteeps build with interest! I already had a small control panel box...

If you're looking for co2 near Wolverhampton, check out Cheers Beverage Gas. Paid £60 deposit, £20 a refill on 6.35kg, prices Inc VAT. Great service from these guys.

    Co2 cost ££

Energas update: spoke to sales rep, it's the Derby branch that refills the co2 tanks, so it's supply only from that branch. Good deal if you live near Derby!

    Co2 cost ££

Thanks Martin - on the Energas website, it lists the main applications of co2, then if you click on it, it does list the individual mixes for different purposes. I'll be contacting them for some pure co2 too, thanks for the help.

    Co2 cost ££

Did Energas mention anything about food grade Martin? Interesting that, on the main applications, is both welding and drinks dispense/carbonation. There's a depot in Smethwick which isn't too far so might be viable for me

    Co2 cost ££

Thanks for the heads up - Adams Gas quote £86 for deposit and refill for 6.35kg beverage co2, then £24 a refill, so I would presume the original deposit is circa £60 (matches up roughly with your figures from march 10th)

Could be the lockdown, you never know. Some of the other suppliers I've called have stated that they aren't operating at the moment, so maybe a shortage of operators, drivers furloughed etc.
