Decent cider book as a gift?

So my father has decided he wants to brew cider this summer - can anyone recommend a decent book on the subject? I know there's loads of information on here (that's how I learnt to brew - no need for a book when you can get real time feedback) but he's a little less technologically savvy than...

    Show us your brewery

What on earth is that black vehicle in the background? I can't even figure out if it's a car / bike / trike from that angle.

    Solar panels.

The SMA units in general are very good. The TL is particularly well regarded so you shouldn't have any problems. I'm happy to give you a good price on a warranty extension if you're worried. For comparison, the trade price on the SMA is 50% higher than the inverter we typically use so they...

    Solar panels.

I'm based in London and I have a business partner based in The Cotswolds. We cover all of the South of England though I'll be honest and say we may not be that competitive versus a small local installer. Our main market is building contractors, farm owners and landowners. Feel free to drop me...

    Growing Hops??

Have I missed the boat on planting some hops this year? I'll be growing them in Hampshire so plenty of sunshine.

    Solar panels.

If you got Sunpower modules for that price that's a very good deal indeed! Those things are crazy expensive! The material price we pay is roughly double what some other manufacturers charge. Out of interest what was the premium inverter you had fitted with them?

    Solar panels.

The inverters you get these days are pretty good - depending on the make they will often come with a seven to 10 year guarantee as standard. On that basis I'd say if your inverter broke twice in 25 years you'd be very unlucky. My general gut feel is that a decent inverter should be lasting...

    HBS in Southampton?

I've not been there yet but my parents tell me there's a shop in Salisbury.

    Solar panels.

Finally a thread on my area of expertise! I've worked in green construction for around 10-12 years as a QS and I've specialised in solar for the last 3-4. I have my own company too so if you want some impartial advice please just drop me a line. We don't do hard sales tactics. To respond to...

    little bottler

If it was the-home-brew-shop.co.uk then mine came without the tap - a quick call and it was with me the next day.

    little bottler

I didn't get a red insert with mine but it did come with a little white sleeve about an inch long (could be a different colour on yours). I think this is to connect it up to a tap on your bottling bucket.

wanted - free or cheap dj's near Sutton in Ashfield

It sounds bleeding obvious but keep an eye on eBay for huge batches of these things, keep the few that you need and sell the rest in smaller batches. You'll easily cover your costs as the market for such a large number is tiny, whereas if you resell in batches of 2-3 you'll have a good market.

    Brewery names for fun!

A bit like the band Joy Division. Google their name to find out the origins, trust me though, it's really not very nice at all.

    weekend piccys [london stuff]

Yeah, then the Southwark Tavern another 50m or so along and The Rake in the street behind - all tidy little pubs.

    weekend piccys [london stuff]

Did you pass here around 1pm by any chance? If so I saw you heading up towards London Bridge - though I must confess the bus with a hen party caught my attention a little more...

    Tesco clearance

Try the Untappd app for iPhone (or they have an online site too if you don't use iPhone). It's really handy for tracking what you drink, saving a few notes etc. It also allows you to find which pubs have which beers in based on previous reviewers submissions. I've just started using it and I...

    Valentine's Day

I'm very fortunate in that my OH doesn't celebrate Valentine's (despite it also being our anniversary), nor Christmas, nor birthdays (hers happens to be tomorrow). She's a big beer geek though so we had a night in with a beer theme. Nice beers with every course. Tempura beer battered...

Where can I buy these bottles? They're BEAUTIFUL!!!

No, they do a 750ml version which is basically a champagne bottle with a bigger cap on. These are 330ml - just checked with a regular cap and it fits. Does anyone know the name for this shape of bottle? I don't even know what to Google to find them.

Where can I buy these bottles? They're BEAUTIFUL!!!

These Meantime bottles have recently been popping up in bars in London. I've collected a few but at £4.50 or so in a bar and £2.50 or so in the shops they're a little steep. Even going direct to the brewery they're £1.60ish each (though admittedly full!). Does anyone know what they're...
