    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

From what I can tell - and this makes it all quite confusing - there are at least two versions/levels with not very unique names, so we all get confused. Or I do. From internetting it looks like the recirculation one is considered to be that Ace thing yeah, but then my non-recirculating model...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

@lhook it gets a lot easier if you set up a pump for recirc. on the temp front. I did do manual bucket the time before, but the pump thing I was giggling it so so easy!... until it ran dry due to my grind and then I was less happy :P It's good to know the bottom can be opened up should I...

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

I love mine still. I did add recirculation on my last (4th I think) brew. Though I also ground very fine and it kept getting stuck not draining enough. But that's my own problem to solve (condition grain, less fine grind maybe). I haven't used the immersion chiller yet. I briefly considered...

    My first kettle

How much volume do you roughly lose when leaving behind the cold break @MyQul? So far I've poured from my 10L UN containers into FV with abandon! But especially in my 5L demijohns I noticed a lot of material at the bottom.

    Mash Tun Cleaning

Haha @Bigcol49 I read that as you rinse it out WHILST the wort is boiling :D. I like to imagine you make very special beer :P. Today will be my first day using a pump if I can bring myself to go out to the garage and set everything up! Oh and if I can choose what to make!

    Hello from Berkshire

Welcome fellow Berkshire'ite! As Hoddy says, I popped in there recently for a bucket upgrade (rah), and ended up with a few more bits! But oddly I never seem to get enough.

    stir plates

Maybe you need just one small note in small print! I always see the small print and then miss the huge "KEEP REFRIGERATED" sign!

    stir plates

Definitely worth it. It's made harvesting and growing yeast feel much more approachable for me. I built an over-engineered, under-designed one with an Arduino and my 3d printer. Now I'm waiting on the parts used in the above ones to make a second one for a friend.

Looking for a grain mill - advice please

Ah @Dutto yours is the same as mine. Not done any 'end bearing' changes yet... what's that all about? My method of catching the milled grain is a well cleaned, hardly used honest, cat litter tray :D. @strange-steve seems ok so far, but as I say, only used once so far. Might be twice by the end...

Looking for a grain mill - advice please

I'll jump in having attempted the cheapy approach for once. I got this £12 iron looking thing off eBay. I think the Americans/some people call it a Corona Mill. I then printed (finally a use for my 3d printer) off a little plastic guard to keep the grains falling down and not flying everywhere...

Under-25s turning their backs on alcohol.

@IainM I like your point. The whole cameras and youtube and instagram channels everywhere means I'd have ruined my life (socially!) when I started being a drunkard in school days! I wonder if yet another factor - at least down here in the south - is that so many young people are living at home...

Switching from bottles to kegs - Advice please

I take it if you re-filled a sodastream thing with an N, CO2 mix something bad would come of it?

Switching from bottles to kegs - Advice please

I've got the party keg setup and it worked a treat for two main reasons: 1. I took it on holiday and it didn't embarrass me like the time I took one with the side-tap thing to the MotoGP campsite about 5 years ago. FOAAAAM. The party tap thing works a treat. I had a wilko mexican ceverza in...

    Simple Stout.

I've got the simple Guinness recipe in the FV at the moment too, and at about 1 week in as of this morning. I'm so tempted to check on it, but then I recall someone here saying, "two weeks!" so i'm trying to force myself to wait. I also added 400g of hook pale malt and re-mashed to make a...

any experience with £25 "homebrew" pump

Ah this has been a great thread thanks. I'm putting together my list now. Realising I need less QDs/camlocks than I thought, given most of it will stay in one piece, at least during the brew day!

My Attempt at a Stir Plate

Hah! Well I just ordered the Elon Musk flasks or whatever they're called, so hopefully this time tomorrow I'll be having a lovely time! EDIT: Also I turned it off about midnight and it was froth'd up like a goodun this morning, so every time i try turning it on the foam gets higher and higher...

My Attempt at a Stir Plate

After doing my first BIAB a few weeks ago (BrewDog KingPin) and using the Wyeast they specified, I had a thought along the lines of, "oh my, over £6 for yeast." So I started looking at re-using yeast. Being a fool I have a plethora of pc bits and bobs knocking about, a 3D printer and also an...

    Worst efficiency ever?

Thanks chaps, and thanks Ade. That feels like what I'm after, and a link to somewhere to get a decent one is what I really wanted :). I think given the Klarstein has that metal sheath that the bag fits into, I can winch it up (I mean getting a pulley was half the attraction of this whole...

    Worst efficiency ever?

Ah thanks Dutto, but also i'm sorry as i'm probably confusing us all! What I think I'm trying to do is a full volume mash BIAB and recirculate from the tap in the Klarstein back into the top of the thing... is that what normal people do?! :D

    Worst efficiency ever?

Hey, this sparge malarky, do you use the pumps like these? Oh! More likely these yeah?
