    Covid-19 the second wave.

Long time since I last logged on but not surprised there's a new incarnation of the same old political thread <SNIP> by Admin. Please read the full first post in this thread (the important part is quoted below) we now have The Bridge (a hidden forum) that you have to request to join all...

    More Klarstein offers

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I'm on a spending freeze right now but hope someone can take advantage of the offer. I'm hoping Klarstein will run a similar offer after I've brewed the 20+ kits I'm currently sitting on :)

    More Klarstein offers

Had my eye on this for a while https://www.klarstein.co.uk/Home-appliances/Drinks-dispenser/Home-brewing/Mundschenk-Mash-Tun-Mash-Kettle-Beer-Brewing-Set-2500W-30l-Stainless-Steel.html With code EXTRA15 it's only £246 Is this the same as those all-in-one/pre-order/robo machines but minus the...

    Nelson's Revenge final gravity

I've never used finings on a kit beer. I also find I waste less beer if I use a Pressure Barrel than bottle condition. Have bought finings for first (country) wine brew though.

    Diuretic Index of different beers

Thanks @Dutto . So ABV and volume consumed seems most likely... Wonder if there's a ratio or time dilution study ;)

    Diuretic Index of different beers

Serious question.. We all know coffee etc has certain affects but is there any [scientific] study that may explain why BeerX has a more diuretic effect than BeerY? Is it Hop related? Is it an individual response? Should airlines take advantage/avoidance of this fact?

    MYO IPA

I agree, these are very good. I bought mine when B&M were clearing their stock in 2018. Brewed two (half) packs last November (BBD) with an additional 1kg granulated sugar (so 1kg brewing + 1kg granulated). OG 1.068 FG 1.006 ABV 8.1% Put in Pressure Barrel.. Bought two bigger packs recently...

    Nelson's Revenge final gravity

It's certainly a learning curve but great hobby - I've been brewing for only 18 months .. Could the yeasty taste be described as 'burnt toasty'.. I had this on my first brew, I put it down to trying to brew during hottest days of 2018.. Head retention is harder to achieve, don't judge your...

    Nelson's Revenge final gravity

Out of interest, Do you use a FV with a tap and bottling wand? Also, how did you prime your bottles - teaspoon of sugar, batch prime, carb drops etc? I always mark the 1st and last few bottles. The first usually goes into a 500ml PET bottle to check carb levels. The last I mark as they're more...

    WOWs Lidl juice

I'm also considering starting my first WOW soon... FWIW (since you already have the concentrate) Sainsbury sell 1ltr of 100% Red Grape juice for £1. Wilko should also sell Yeast Nutrient (when it's in stock).

    Noob questions on first kit

Your guess probably as good as mine... Not sure what's in the box on the right.. Looks like you've a hydrometer, thermometer, bottle caps, stirrer, bottle brush and testing/sample cylinder. Can't see any taps on the FVs.. Best wait and see :) Difference between a FV and a PB is that one's...

    Noob questions on first kit

Personally I'd wait... Sure you've enough time to ferment but not condition.. Even if you had, you'd be unsettling the bottles in the move.. Continue the knowledge journey in the meantime.. You did buy 3 fermenters, no pressure barrel?! Can't really see exactly what you bought, but the tubing...

    Noob questions on first kit

Don't see why not.. Everyone has their own ideas/techniques for sterilisation, some blame it for bad brews etc... Give it a good clean and sterilisation (perhaps try those Wilko tablets) but personally I'd try a cheap kit (or Turbo Cider), perhaps with granulated sugar first. Be careful what...

CAN BUBBLING FROM FERMENTATION BIN BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN FERMENTATION

And certain Wilko stores currently sell them at £2.60. https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-floating-hydrometer-for-wine-beer/p/0022575 £3.50 from Thursday..

CAN BUBBLING FROM FERMENTATION BIN BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN FERMENTATION

If you're thinking of brewing more, I'd certainly invest in a hydrometer especially if you want to avoid 'bottle bombs'.. And, yes, afaik, bubbling can be caused by the release of CO2/gas currently trapped and not an indication of continued fermentation.

    Noob questions on first kit

Should be fine. I use mine for Red, Amber, Real ales and stout. I prefer more bubbles in my IPA. There's others here that use PBs a lot, my first mistake was not putting vaseline around the tap (only the lid). After use I give it a general rinse, I tend to clean it with boiling water and a...
