    What did you brew today?

Mosaic Rye Beer. Last time I made this the mash stuck like a ba***rd in the Grainfather. Used 250g rice hulls this time around and it made a big difference. Also used the Robobrew false bottom in the Grainfather for the first time, as recommended by David Heath. Really pleased with how it...

    Gamma Ray Original

I bought enough hops to brew 2 x 23l of the Gamma. Got a few other brews planned first and then I’ll get this one on again.

    Gamma Ray Original

Just to give this a bump. Brewed 23L to this recipe 7 weeks ago now and the beers lovely. It's especially nice out of the keg. One I'll definitely do again.

    What did you brew today?

Bottled my Orange & Corriander Pale Ale yesterday and it didn't taste very promising (can't taste any orange at all). So back to basics today with a single hop Citra pale ale. 4.5k Maris Otter, 250g Carapils. Chinook leaf for bittering and Citra BBC @ 10mins, 5mins and 1min. Dry hop with some...

    GrainFather v other systems.

The new Robobrew and Brewster Beacon setups look great quality and value for money. The main reason I went for the GF was the CF chiller. It really is excellent. Even in the summer the wort's ready to go into the fermenter in a couple of minutes. I like the connect part, but the chiller is it's...

    Time to Move On

That's really sad Terry. There must be hundreds who have benefitted from your advice over the years. I know I have.

Why would my OG drop during the boil?

What @Sadfield says. You need to give the wort a good stir after sparging to get a correct measurement. First time I used my Grainfather I had a very low reading taking a sample from the top.

    What did you brew today?

Even higher than ours then. I usually do pales which should be around 20ppm, I still had to add 20mls CRS even with 50% Ashbeck. Bloody sparge water heater packed up today. Tried a cold water sparge and it's not gone well. Pre boil of 1034 (should be 1044), I'll add 30mins to the boil and put...

    What did you brew today?

Orange zest & corriander pale ale mashing now. Trying a split of 50% Ashbeck spring and tap water for the first time. Our tap water is getting up to 240ppm CaCO3 now. The CRS addition was getting ridiculous. It was only 180ppm when I first started basic water treatment 6 months ago.

    The currency of homebrew

Got the bin men to take two extra bin bags in exchange for a few bottles. No mean feat around here . The bin mafia won't usually touch anything that doesn't fit in the wheelie bin with the lid down. Few bottles of homebrew later and it's "no problem squire".
