    Digital thermometer cheap and accurate

I used heat shrink because i have it and it is waterproof. When the probe is inside my urn there is no chance of water ingress because the heat shrink goes from the probe and up the wire so the end of the heat shrink on the wire is outside the urn. I would imagine that if your using tape then it...

First all grain brew day in the bag.

I've never used a clear fermenter but it looks normal as you can see all the stuff moving around inside my bucket then it soon settles down to the bottom after a few days.

    Digital thermometer cheap and accurate

It works fine and i am happy with it. Just remember to put some heat shrink over the end of the probe where the the wire enters the probe to prevent water ingress in the probe because its not designed to get submersed in water, its made to be poked inside a lump of meat in a dry oven. I fitted...

    Centennial Brown Ale

Good wee video mate apart from the quiet audio. I turned the volume up and when the funky music kicked in at the high volume my neighbours must have thought ohh good he is having another party.👍

Malt Pipe Bottom Screen Mesh Size

I use a 20ltr plastic food bucket with lots of 6mm holes drilled in the base of the bucket and have fitted 3 legs on the bucket base to keep it 8cm up from the heater plate on the urn. I put a mesh bag inside the bucket which covers the full inside of the bucket to act as a filter for the grain...

Doing my first brew using my own recipe

Thanks for the very kind offer Obadiah but my next door neighbour already tells me how fantastic all these beers are and he is very enthusiastic about testing the latest creations. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 bottles for him to decide as he is that thorough in his testing.

Doing my first brew using my own recipe

Doing my first brew using my own recipe

Cool im not trying to replicate the sierra nevada although it is very tasty. This should be a bit more red in colour hopefully and full of flavour with a bit of luck as i have never dry hoped before and never used mosaic hops either. I think from memory the sierra nevada only used cascade hops...

Doing my first brew using my own recipe

No i have never used the brewfather app or heard of it to be honest. Just had a wee look at it and it seems to be a pretty good tool so thanks for suggesting this. I put in my grains into it and it predicts i should have a beer with 5.4% abv so i would be happy with that. I will just need to...

Wort not flowing through the grain bed

The grains were crushed by GEB. Yes others have also pointed out that they could simply have been crushed to fine and causing the issue. Yes i think when i next order more grain then i will get some husks as well just to help.

Wort not flowing through the grain bed

I am not doing it as a boil in the bag. The mesh bag is simply fitted inside the bucket to prevent the grains from going into the pump and blocking it up or block the nozzle on the top that sprays the circulating wort on top of the grain bed. I have the urn with the bucket inside the urn with 3...

Wort not flowing through the grain bed

Its not something that i have ever paid much attention too as all my previous brews have went smoothly and circulated through the grain bed with no issues. It was just because this last brew did not go to plan and wouldn't circulate that there was a noticeable difference in clarity after the...

Wort not flowing through the grain bed

I noticed a big difference in the clarity of the wort and the amount of gunk left at the bottom of my urn on this brew because it wasn't circulated through the grain bed. I have fitted a clear tube on my urn to use for checking the wort levels and you can see what a difference it makes in...
