    Help with hop alternatives

There is a calculator at the top of the page for IBU's . Ive never used a calculation and if it was me i would just put a wee bit extra magnum if the recipe says 43g of 16 AA hops and the magnum being 10 AA then i would stick in 50g. Not very scientific i know but would probably be good.

    Help with hop alternatives

Yes it is much better value to buy bigger bags rather than buying 100g all the time. Same with their yeast you can get 100g for £8 so 80p for 10 sachets rather than pay 3-4 quid for a single sachet.

    Help with hop alternatives

I bought 450g of magnum pellets from cross my loof for £11 inc delivery last week, just slightly less alpha acid than warrior but if its only for bittering then that's a decent price and will make plenty of brews.

    Very creamy krausen

It is an English ale yeast and it's my first time using it. 5kg best ale malt 400g cara malt 200g crystal malt. It smells great and tastes great and its the first time ive dry hopped. I added 25g magnum 60 mins, 30g centennial 10 mins and 100g centennial at 80 degrees and 50g cascade dry hop...

    Very creamy krausen

Hello fellow brewers i went to dry hop my latest brew and the krausen was a thick creamy coating sitting on top of the wort. I have never had this before on any of my previous brews and just wondering why this has happened. Its like a thick coating of cream and not the usual foam like krausen...

    The safety of PET bottles

I have taken stringent procedures over my life time up to now to only have abused my body with the best drugs and alcohol available and smoked the best things mother nature has to offer. I dread the day that i am on my death bed and the nurse tells me it was all those plastic bottles that caused it.

    Gushing!

I would try reducing the sugar by 1g per 500ml as i found 2g - 2.5g per 500ml for ale is a good amount for me.

    Drying plastic bottles

I always rinse every bottle after use and leave them upside down on the dishes draining rack for a few minutes and then when i take them off the rack i hold the bottle upside down and use a whipping action repetitively like i am trying to throw the bottle into the ground vigorously and that...

    Digital thermometer cheap and accurate

If you do not have access to a pot of boiling water then you could stick the probe up where the sun don't shine and it should read 37 degrees although thankfully i have access to boiling water and there was no need for overly exciting experiments.

    Digital thermometer cheap and accurate

Indeed i did foxy so well done you for spotting that. In my eyes if a cheap thermometer says its 100 degrees when a pot of water starts boiling then in my humble opinion that is accurate as water boils at that temp. A very simple yet very effective way to test a cheap thermometer.

    Digital thermometer cheap and accurate

No i put it in a pot of water and it started boiling at 100 degrees so that is good enough for me. I am making beer in my kitchen not doing scientific experiments for NASA or any other highly scientific organisation that might require exact temperatures to hundredths of a degree. Hence why the...
