    Fridge advice

Take a small drill piece say 6mm and just carefully drill through the skin of the fridge and no more. Then take the drill piece and push through so it touches the other side and mark the depth with a sharpie or tape just so you can eye it up against the thickness of the wall to be sure you hit...

    The New Journey

Yes I do know that place. I've never visited it though. But looking at those pump clips and food it sure looks like a good place to visit.

    The New Journey

If you find something you fancy brewing then I'm happy to go with that. You have said you like stouts and porters. I've never brewed either so would be more than happy to go with one.

    The New Journey

Hi Dan. Yes I know the wine shop. I often pop in and pick up a few beers. It's great they stock some stuff from local breweries. Your more than welcome to join me on a brew day. I'm using the brewzilla 35L 3.1.1. I must warn you though I'm only allowed to brew outside SWMBO rules. Still it...

    Beer dispenser

I have one. A birthday present from the kids. It's not bad, you can get a 5L keg of ghost ship from sainsburys for around £15. And when that's finished you can reuse the keg filled your favourite homebrew and 12.5 grams of priming sugar. Carb and chill as you would a bottle. The C02 is just to...

    Brewing this weekend

Yes I have a fermentation fridge so will drop the temperature when fermentation is complete. Do you think the dry hops would be ok inside the fermenter during fermentation until I'm ready to drop them in.

    Brewing this weekend

Thanks dave. Do you mean 100g total for a dry hop or 100g of each. I have some centennial to use as a bittering hop and also some lactic to bring the PH down a bit.

    Brewing this weekend

Hi fellow brewers. I'm hoping to get a brew on this weekend weather permitting. I have a brewed the david heath american pale ale and quite liked it. So I have changed it up a little and added 50g of crystal just for a bit of extra colour. I have also changed the hops and am going to have a go...

First brew questions from a novice

Welcome to the forum. Just a tip. You may want to use slightly less boiling water say 3 or 4 litres to mix the malt. Then top up the fermenter to say 35/36 litres. Check the temp and top up the remainder with hot or cold as required to hit the pitching temp. On my first brew I followed the...

    Calcium chloride substitute

TBPH not quite sure why I need it. Chemistry was not my favourite subject. I'm in the electro mechanical trade. Now the recipe is a david heath recipe on brewfather for APA. When my tap water profile was put in as source it said I needed the calcium chloride. Now as I didn't realise how hard...

    Calcium chloride substitute

    Peckham springs it is then.

    Calcium chloride substitute

Thanks for all your replies. I've picked up some posh bottled water from waitrose and created a water profile with that. It appears that needs slightly more calcium chloride added to the mash. So I'm going to just use the peckham springs (tap water) and omit the calcium chloride. I'll see how...

    Calcium chloride substitute

Thanks for your help. I'm going to go with 50/50 bottled/tap water. Think I need to learn to walk before I can run. I'll get a few more BIAB brews done before I disappear down the rabbit hole of water treatment.
