Single hop ale with Azacca - Advice please

Thanks for the replies. I'm definitely going to experiment with the later hop additions - I hadn't considered not having an addition at 60m. I do love hoppy beers, so this sounds great.

Single hop ale with Azacca - Advice please

I have recently completed my first AG brew following the instructions in the excellent post in the How-to section. I used EKG hops and it turned out fantastic. Buoyed with success, I'm about to embark on my second AG brew. I intend to use the same method and grain bill for a 10l batch and use...

    Morgans Beer Kits

I brewed the Morgans Stockman's Draught before Christmas- supposedly a pub style Aussi draught. Having spent some time in Oz, I was looking forward to this. Brewed with kit yeast, which i think was a mistake, and it tuned out...ok. Not the best, and not much like a draught aussi beer. I drank...

MJ New Zealand Pilsner Hop addition

I'm by far an expert on these things, but I did experiment with dry hopping lagers last year. My favourite was the motueka - it was really nice. Funny enough I recently brewed the MJ NZ pilsner, but I wanted to experiment with Kolsch yeast, so didn't dry-hop it. Sadly, with he Kolsch yeast it...

    Best before dates?

Hello all, Some time ago I bought the ingredients to making some all grain beer but what with other commitments and young kids I had kittle spare time and didn't get round to it. I just found the box of stuff and most of it has a best before date of around 2012, so just wondering I should bin...

Help! Does mould = ruined cider?

What do you think about the possible inclusion of grubs? I cannot be sure that maybe one or two made it through the juicer. I'm sure this is case in traditionally cider made using windfalls though.

Help! Does mould = ruined cider?

I put the juice in a fermenting bin this time. Last time I did it it went straight into demijohns, but found that the juice was heavily sedimented, so thought I'd try in F bin instead. My mate still has plenty of apples on his tree so may give it another go. Will try pitching yeast earlier...

Help! Does mould = ruined cider?

OK thanks. Gutted. Any ideas what may have caused this? Or is that a "how long is a piece of string" question? Cheers Terry

Help! Does mould = ruined cider?

Hi Having laboriously juiced several kilos of apples last weekend I managed to get around 2 gallons of juice using my Phillips juicer. Added 2 crushed campden tabs to the juice and left for around 36 hours before pitching the yeast. However, there is now a mouldy crust on the top of the...

    juicers, apples and pectin

Thanks Moley. Haven't measured yet. Will do later. Think I should be aiming for around 1055? Would be nice to reach around 6-7% when finished.

    juicers, apples and pectin

Wife and I juiced 4 boxes of apples yesterday - a mix of cooking and eating. Took ages and the effeciency is not great with our Phillps juicer, but got 2 gallons of juice. Could probably have got more but we discarded lots of apples due to having specks (maggots) in. Have left over night with 2...

    Sparge spray

Thinking about adding a sparge arm/spayer to my kit before I start brewing. Has anyone tought about/already using a garden lawn sprinkler or oscilator as a sparge sprayer? Seems that they would be perfect, but haven't come across any info on using them. Something like this Sprinkler or this...

    Townes IPA

I'm going to have a stab at the Townes IPA recipe listed here http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=738. This will be my first AG brew so just want o make sure I'm getting this right... There is no mention of adding Irish Moss, which I guess is not part of the recipe, but part...

    Adding sugar to brew

Hi All I'm about to embark on my maiden all-grain brew (hopefully this weekend if I receive all ingredients through post) and have a couple of questions. I have opted for the Townes IPA recipe which I found on here as it seems fairly straightforward with a short list of ingredients to get me...

Hop Head type recipe for 1st AG brew?

    Dustbin for Fermentation

Eeewww...! OK, with this in mind, I think I will go with the White bin for few extra quid. Not worth spoiling a brew for the sake of few pennies. Think I may order a new book from Amazon. Any thoughts?
