    Question re Hop-stand /Whirlpool

Thanks all for the replies. That all makes perfect sense. I've just proved this to myself (I don't know why I didn't do this before!!) but in Brewfather I removed my whirlpool hop addition and it recalculated my 5 min addition from 9.9 IBU to 6.5 IBU, so it does takes this account and...

    Question re Hop-stand /Whirlpool

When formulating a recipe using brewing software, I can calculate the IBUs provided by the hops added at the hop-stand stage. As an example, a 20 min hop-stand at ~79 degrees using hops of 11.6% will add 12.5 IBUs to my brew. My questions is this; do I also need to consider the extra IBUs from...

    Malt Miller now using DHL?

Had my shiny new kettle among other stuff totalling over 200 quid delivered on Wednesday from MM via DHL. As I wasn't going to be in at the time specified, I arranged for it to be delivered on Thursday via the link they sent. I returned home on Wednesday to find a massive box sitting outside my...

    Better Brew IPA

Looks and sounds like a success. I love a pint from my KK, but generally only use it when the weather is cooler as I've nowhere to keep it cool.

    Dark rock brewing kits…..

Are you referring to the full extract kits they do or the part grain? I did the West Cost Pale extract kit with their enhancer last summer and it was fantastic. I followed it up with the part grain version which really good also, but for convenience and end product, the extract kit was superb...

    Fermenting Helles

I just posted a question in the Ingredients forum about using this yeasts I didn't see this thread. For those that have used the Hell yeast from CML, if double pitching, as recommended, do you pitch directly or is there any benefit in rehydrating the yeast first?

    CML Hell Pilsner Yeast Fermentation

I have a Coopers Crown Lager kit, which I intend to brew with Crossmyloof Hell yeast (double pitch as recommended). As I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks I'm planning on getting it going a week before I go and fermenting at 12 degrees for 3 weeks in total. The question is, will I still need to...

    Munton's Connoisseurs Range Yeast

Baffles me too. I normally use Crossmyloof for my yeast, so would be inclined to use their "Midland", or "Four" for this, but something like S04 from Fermentis would be my choice other wise.

    Munton's Connoisseurs Range Yeast

I've always wondered why Muntons do this. Even on their premium Hand Crafted kits you get a 7g sachet of non-descript yeast. Surely they want their products to brewed to the best they can be without the need for the upsell? And lets face it if you are forced to upgrade the yeast, it's unlikely...

Simple kit plus mini-mash method to improve a kit

I brewed the Motueka Blonde Ale (slightly tweaked) using the method described at the top of this post and it turned out very well indeed. I made a video of the brew and tasting for my YouTube channel, if anyone is interested in that kind of stuff: Motueka Blonde Ale, Partial Mash

    Muntons Continental Gold Pilsner

Does anyone know if this kit comes with lager yeast or a generic ale yeast?

    Muntons Flagship Hazy IPA

After all the hype, I had to give this kit a try. It seems I'm in the minority here (if not out on my own) but was quite underwhelmed. It's not bad, but I'm struggling to get through the keg. It seems they have added some wheat malt extract to the tins to achieve the haze and that seems to give...

    Extract Kit brewing

I got a 20l stock pot from Amazon for doing part grain and smaller batches of BIAB all grain. I think it cost around £20 and was a good investment. It's large enough to do the Dark Rock part grain kits, but I also use brewing software to scale down extract brews aiming for a FV volume of 12l...

Muntons Liquid Malt Extract (New Range)

Some of these new extracts from Muntons look interesting, but there seems to be little or no information on how to use them. The new Muntons beer app thingy seems pretty useless to me and doesn't really make sense when trying to create recipes. I'd be interested in finding out if anyone has used...

    Stout kit

I did the the regular Coopers Stout recently. B2B still had the Morgan's LME cans on sales when I bought it, so I used a can of the dark roasted LME in with the Stout. Added 200g of steeped Choc malt and used 04 English ale yeast, brewed a little short to 21l. Brewed this up with Christmas in...

    Muntons Connoisseurs Continental Lager query

Coopers 86 day pilsner made with a kilo of light DME and use Mangrove Jack's Californian Lager Yeast (brew at ale temps). Very nice indeed and so simple.

Back to Kit Brews for a while

I mostly do kits during the summer as I don't have time for AG. I'm a big fan of the Festival kits and have brewed some cracking batches using those - Stag and Pilgrims Hope have been highlights recently. I've started experimenting with (un-hopped) extract and it's good fun experimenting with...

    Morgans Beer Kits

I did the Stockman's as mentioned above. I used a kilo of enhancer and my OG was 1.040 and it finished at 1.010, so you're probably about there. Not sure the kit yeast is very good imho. I have just been tempted to try another Morgans Kit as B2B had them on a deal (amazing how fickle I am when I...
