Is there any interest in a possible group purchase of glucanase (aka beta glucanase)?

Yes, I understand what you say, and I am mindful of the possible consequences of altering the mash chemistry, and subsequently the beer in an undesirable way. But it is a product already being used by the brewing industry, although I don't know to what extent . . . . . so I would still like to...

Is there any interest in a possible group purchase of glucanase (aka beta glucanase)?

As you might expect, I'm certainly interested, but I would not want to buy for 2 or 3 weeks yet because I'm going on holiday for a fortnight at the weekend athumb.. I hope really hope that there is enough interest to make it worthwhile for you 🤞

Is there any interest in a possible group purchase of glucanase (aka beta glucanase)?

There are a number of Brewzilla, and possibly other all-in-one system owners who are experiencing problems with poor wort circulation during the mash, and slow sparging. A suggestion has been put forward by RoomWithABrew to use glucanase in the mash. Based on his reported experience, and having...

A nice idea. I didn't think of that. However, I'm not sure whether or not there would be 50 forum members willing to buy 100g each. Also, there is the not so small matter of repackaging and the safe distribution of a liquid food grade product. This is a lot of work and a big responsibility for...

Thanks for a very good explanation, and for spotting my not so deliberate arithmetic error  I've just done a search for AB Vickers. I can't work out the exact relationship (i.e. who owns who, or whatever), but Lallemand appear to market their range of enzymes. They do not appear to...

I don't doubt that this can be a means to improve the wort flow through the mash . . . . . But I haven't yet found a homebrew supplier in the UK who sells it in small quantities. The smallest quantity I have seen for sale is 5kg from Murphy & Son (who supply to the brewing industry). . . . . ...

My answer to that question is going to be a bit subjective, but the beers I brew are always fine, and I achieve good efficiencies. Sometimes (at the risk of blowing my own trumpet a bit) they are very good indeed. So, why do I worry? . . . . . I guess that it is because I expected more from the...

Thanks - That's an interesting article. Just for information, I set my mill at a gap of 1.2mm for normal malted barley. I also moisture condition the grain before milling. I find that it is less dusty this way.

Your practical experience, and what you say are encouraging. I'll give it a try. 🤞 Do you use rice hulls in everything you brew?

Hi Rodcx500x, I'm also very wary of setting the temperature too high during the mash . . . . . That's why I'd like somebody to tell me that it's OK to expose the wort to higher than normal temperatures during mashing :?:

You can buy deionised water in Asda. I've been using it for a while now, and its just fine

Yes, I use the neoprene jacket, and I wrap several layers of bubble-wrap around the cylinder as well. In addition to this I put foam pipe lagging on the vertical pipe from the pump outlet . . . . it all looks a bit OTT, but it has helped a bit. I do now set the temperature a couple of degrees...

Damson wheat beer - good or terrible idea?

Yes, I appreciate that the two fruits are very different, but my point was only that a wheat beer makes a good base for a dark fruit beer. I cannot think of any reason why it would not be worth a try.

It's really interesting that everybody has found different solutions to dealing with the foibles of the Brewzilla. I have two goals: Maintain the mash temperature at the required level Achieve a good circulation of the wort through the grain bed They should complement each other . . . . But...

Hi Rodcx500z, I get what you say about the tube, but I'm still in two minds about it. I agree that it can be a pain in the ar5e at times, not least because it gets in the way when you want to stir the mash. But my own pet theory is that it serves a purpose when the flow through the mash is not...

Damson wheat beer - good or terrible idea?

A few years ago a friend gave me a large bottle of a Leffe beer he had bought in France which contained elderberries. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a deep ruby red colour, and the label said that it contained malted barley, wheat/malted wheat and elderberries. Anyway, it was...

It will be interesting to get your take on both items. I tried the blanking plug in place of the central run-off tube for the first time ~3 weeks ago. I haven't reported back on it until now because I had a particularly bad brew day aheadbutt . . . . . . I brewed a pale ale with ~20% of malted...
