Couldn't you also buy some excessively faired trousers called "loons"? They were usually cheap, and in bright colours. I remember having some red ones ✌

    Covid - Plan B & Omicron

Almost 36 hours since my booster . . . . . My arm has been quite painful - much worse than last time. Consequently I slept badly last night. I've felt a bit spaced out as well, but this might be the result of the lack of sleep. However, I don't feel ill, so all in all not a bad result

No problem. It's not always that obvious when you don't know someone athumb..

My aunt lived in a house with my grandad up to the early 1960s with no electricity. They had gas mantles on the wall for lighting, and she still did her weekly wash with a washing dolly in a galvanised metal tub She wrung it out using a hand operated mangle. The water was heated in a very large...

They are demijohns, and I still have several in the loft dating back to when I used to make country wines (blackberry, elderberry etc). I have used them more recently for large batches of sloe and/or damson gin 🤪

    APA

Based on what I have read, melanoidin, biscuit and amber malts are very similar (someone please correct me if I have been mislead). I often use 200g (~4%) of biscuit malt in one of my APA recipes together with either flaked or torrified wheat (~7%). It gives a very pleasant nutty/malty taste...

Will using tap water be "ok"

Thanks. I've not seen that before. I've just had a quick glance at it for now, but it looks worthy of a closer look when I have more time

Will using tap water be "ok"

There's a lot of sound advice in the preceding posts, but if you are still a bit unsure then keep it simple, and deal with the important things first: 1/ If you do nothing else then at least put 1/2 a Camden tablet into the whole volume of your brewing water. This will neutralise the chlorine...

    Covid - Plan B & Omicron

Had my booster *** this morning. All very efficient and well organised as were the first two. I was asked a lot more questions on the way in this time compared with previous occasions, and was given a leaflet to read about the Pfizer vaccine, and the possible side effects. No problems so far...

    American pale ale

You may already know it, but the Gram Parsons Anthology double CD is well worth buying. . . . . . I know that CDs are considered by many folks as "old tech" these days, but you get an excellent little book in the box giving a fascinating history of his musical career, which you don't get with a...

    American pale ale

What excellent musical taste you have . . . . . . Although I would describe his style as country rock rather than C&W 🤠

    American pale ale

I brew US style pale ales quite often, and I agree with others that you should leave out the chocolate malt. I usually include some flaked wheat in my recipes (~300g in a 20-22l batch ). I've found that it improves the body and the head retention, and it also helps to keep the colour nice and...

Can we be a little more accepting of our differences?

A wise decision, but not always easy. I allowed myself to be sucked in to responding to an unfortunately worded response to one of my posts not long after I had joined the forum. Fortunately one of the administrators stepped in very quickly to edit out the other gentleman's remarks and my...

    Covid - Plan B & Omicron

Will have mine on Sunday. I booked it as soon as I received the NHS text message. . . . . . . I find it hard to fathom why anybody of sound mind would not take the opportunity to maximise the protection that a vaccine gives - even if it's not 100%. PS - I have a needle phobia, but I will still...
