Back in after 20 yrs, a few questions.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I have read some research that suggests leaving the hop in for long periods can actually reduce the hop flavour, apparently reabsorbing some of the oils etc... That could all be nonsense, but I did read it. I don't think a week will make a hell of a lot more...

Back in after 20 yrs, a few questions.

I would imagine they will turn out fine, even if you have pulled some of the hop etc through, it should settle out. The last couple of bottles I filled from the Coopers were like thick dish water, but they have settled clear.

Back in after 20 yrs, a few questions.

I am very much a beginner at this myself, but I have done the Coopers Lager Kit, started it maybe 4 to 5 weeks ago and it is currently in the bottle carbonating and conditioning, will have been in bottles 2 weeks tomorrow. I did go outside of the instructions with the lager kit and added my...

    Cold crashing and bottle conditioning

Slight thread revival, but didn't see the need to start a new one for my question. I currently have a lager bottle conditioning and that was cold crashed for the sake of clarity and it seemed to improve the haze. I currently have a stout bubbling away and I'm not concerned with clarity, it...

    Demerara sugar

I would assume anything but from what I can gather, it will change the flavour depending on how much you use. I have just started a brew with demerara sugar in it but only a small quantity of my total feementables, 200g of 2.9kg. I plan on using it in an apple juice cider as I think it could...

You're stuck in quarantine with only one beer

I think Kronenbourg 1664, there seems to be a lot of distaste for commercial lager amongst many home brewers, but 1664 has fond memories for me of travelling around France and I find it quite distinctive.

Coopers Irish Stout with a twist...

    CML

I have just recently found a local whole foods shop that sells a variety of brewing kit and ingredients, including AG, in small quantities at least. It may be worth me going in there one day to see if they can order in specific ingredients for me, they seemed very helpful when I was in there...

    Bottling day help

Well I didn't realise you can re-use crown caps, I have a fishbowl full of caps I have been collecting for years, for no real reason other than I like the look of them in a fish bowl lol! If they could serve a purpose, then that could be cool. Does re-using come with any issues with sealing...

Coopers Irish Stout with a twist...

Yes, from the research I have done so far, I think it needs to be under 10% of your batch as a rule to avoid over flavours, so I am using 250g in this batch and keeping the other half for a future batch. ;) That said, if anyone else has experience of chocolate malt, happy to hear if even 250g...

Coopers Irish Stout with a twist...

I am going to get a Coopers Irish Stout kit under way this weekend, but I will be going my own way a little with the recipe. I have 1kg of Youngs Beer Enhancer and I have picked up 500g of crushed chocolate malt, I also have 1kg of demerara Sugar. The plan is as below, but I do have some quick...

What fermentation temp control swings are acceptable?

I have used Novalager for my first kit along with some Hersbrucker hops, a taste at maybe day 12 of fermentation I thought it was a little fruity, but when bottling on day 16, it seemed to have dissipated. I also brewed at a pretty steady 17 degrees so it will be interesting to see what it is...
