    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Only my Chinook are really big. Not sure if it matters though. I like cherry tomatoes the best! 😁

First pick of the Cascade hops. The rest on the plant, which are more sheltered, are a little under so can wait.

I cut it open. I'll try peeling open next time, good tip thanks.

    Blimey I won't be lighting a fire. It's still 23 degrees C here!

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Weather gets worse here from Tuesday onwards. Hoping mine will be ready by then. The 3 varieties I've got are all at slightly different stages of readyness. I'll have a look at the weekend.

    St Austell Brewery Ingredients

Great stuff, thanks Braumeister. My Proper Job is still bubbling every minute or so after 9 days in the fermenter, slow and steady!

How warm for carbonation and conditioning?

I carbonate for 2 weeks at 20C then move to a colder room to store. Tricky at this time of year but I've got an air-con room I can use which is at 15C. During winter I just store in my garage.

    Completed AG Recipe Kits-GEB/MM

I'll have to have a look at these CML kits, they sound great. I'm working my way through BrewUK All Grain kits at the moment and so far they have all been great. I can highly recommend the Route Citra 6 Wheat, Alpha Male Pale and Super Sonic Pale. I'll be ordering the Biscotti Breakfast Stout...

    Yeast for Summer Lightning.

I'm just mashing a Summer Lightning tribute. A bit of a last minute decision to brew this and I need some advice on the yeast. I have the following that might be suitable, all Crossmyloof. Five Ale. Clipper. Atlantic. Voss Kveik. Any advice? Cheers!

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

As it was the Belgian Grand Prix today I thought I would do a comparison of my Leffish with the real McCoy. Colour, identical. Head, identical. Taste, mine was sweeter, the Leffe a little dryer. Not sure what this is but Leffe is bubbly and frothy in the mouth. Mine isn't. Overall I'm happy but...

    Culturing Proper Job Yeast.

Yep, definitely a little in the bottom of the Proper Job. I did put it in the fridge for 2 days (upright!). Then poured really carefully. The brew is still bubbling nicely in the fermenter too.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Well I bought the glass from a charity shop a while ago. Then I spotted the beer in Waitrose in Guernsey so had to try it. Really nice, one on the "to do" list!

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

I've just cultured yeast from a bottle of Proper Job, just one bottle though. It was pitched on Monday morning and is going like the clappers! I also top harvested some more for a future brew this morning. It was my first time doing it and may have made some mistakes with the culturing process...

    Culturing Proper Job Yeast.

All interesting stuff and I'll probably be a bit more careful next time. But it's done, 24 litres of Proper Job, AG kit from BrewUk, in the fermenter and the bottle of frothy yeast starter pitched this morning. Fingers crossed!

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

I'm no expert by any means but these are my year 1 Chinook hops growing horizontally. Seem to be fine.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Wow! Amazing crops both of you. I'm only on year one of my Cascade, Centennial and Chinook plants but I'll get enough for a few brews I think. Fascinating plants to grow. I like the way they just seem to know when to stop climbing and end the bine with a hop. I thought I'd have to pinch out the...

    Culturing Proper Job Yeast.

Thanks for the advice RWAB. It does seem to be slowing up a bit now, so will probably give it a wort change tonight. Hopefully it'll be ready by Sunday. If not, i'll wait. I do a lot of top cropping of yeast so will definitely get some of this for future use.
