    Using fresh wet hops

Also the green hops would be well past their best when I got to dry hop as I'd picked them all.

    Using fresh wet hops

Not sure but I didn't fancy a dry hop in case there are still any critters in there. At least with a hopstand they should get a bit of sterilisation!

    Using fresh wet hops

Nope, picked them and gave any bugs an hours eviction notice! Then started adding them with 15 mins of the boil to go at the rate of a handful every couple of minutes, the rest at flameout. It's an IPA with about 70 IBUs from the bittering hops plus a few more from the green hops.

    AlderneyBrew's Brewdays.

Ended up with 24 litres in the fermenter with an OG of 1.060. Going simple and pitching harvested US-05. Bargain brew!

    AlderneyBrew's Brewdays.

That's the rest of them going in. Nice hopstand for 20 mins whilst I went picking fennel seed heads for curries. I've gone all hunter gather! 🤣

    Using fresh wet hops

Picked some wild ones just after the funeral. They're going in as mostly flavour and aroma hops in an English IPA, in about an hour! Only got 300g of them so relied on pellets for the bittering.

    AlderneyBrew's Brewdays.

I haven't posted on my brew day thread for a while, but today is a special day. I found some wild hops yesterday. Oddly they were in the ruins of a Victorian era ammunition building. As they were in perfect condition for harvesting I went back today after the funeral and picked them all, with...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Not sure but this little lump of granite certainly isn't!

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Just found some wild hops! Obviously I don't know what they are but they smell nice. Just messaged the owner but I don't think he'll mind if I get them tomorrow.

    Nicks90's Brewdays

I've had a bit of a break from Kveik recently. I found that the beer never cleared, but other yeasts like US-05 I have no clarity issues with. I also found I was still leaving it in the fermenter for darn near 2 weeks anyway. Maybe I'll use it again in a hazy. I've got loads of it from...

    Obtaining bottles

Spotted this air bubble in one of my Rekorderlig bottles when I was washing it. It hadn't failed but its gone in the recycling!

    Obtaining bottles

I'm lucky in that our recycling center has an open skip full of bottles and I just help myself using a rake to fish them out. Easiest to get the labels off, by far, are Rekorderlig but they are very thin walled. I've had a few fail under pressure and they blow the bottom out. Black Sheep bottles...

Brew Books - What's On Your Shelf??

I prefer a paper copy when I'm reading on the throne. You never know, it could be soft, strong and very very long!

Brew Books - What's On Your Shelf??

I too just got the Dave Miller one for the princely sum of £3.65!

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

You'll need a few more to fill a hot tub!

Your brewing regime and managing beer stock levels

I just try to brew every Sunday. I consume half what I brew so generally have around 300 bottles in stock as a buffer for when I miss a brewday. That's another reason for me preferring bottles over kegs. I'd currently need 18 kegs to house the varieties of beer I've got in bottles.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Yeah I can't complain as it's year 1 for me, so wasn't expecting much at all. We've got a few days of rain on and off here now, so the rest will have to wait. They're not quite ready though, so should be fine.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Well I now know why hops are so expensive! I dried and vac packed all those in that green tray in my post above. Total weight 85g! 😂 Still very satisfying though.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Hi SMP. I'm no expert on hops but I'd say, yes, just let it do it's thing as a bit of a practice for next year! It will probably do more harm cutting it back. Mine are only one year old but I've read that I should just let them die back after harvesting for the first winter. After that cutting...
