    Soapy Taste.

My latest Proper Job AG brew had a distinct soapy taste when fermentation had finished. I left it for another week, hoping the yeast would "tidy up". But when I came to bottle it unfortunately it was still there. Now after 4 weeks in the bottle I tried one and it's still present. I'll leave it...

    Hello from Guernsey

    Greetings from the Northern Isle!

I wondered that too as their AG kits were fantastic. I've had a search around the Interweb but haven't found any other outlets, yet.

    Price Hikes

After my go-to supplier for AG kits went belly up I did a good search around for an alternative. The Worcester Hop Shop have a massive range at great prices, but postage to me was too prohibitive. I settled on CML and have so far brewed Jaipur and Rakau Saison, both still in fermentation...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

    I'm a little disappointed in this. 😂

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

On this matter, is it true that they grow anti clockwise in the Southern hemisphere?

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Mine are in big pots, cut down water barrels, and they had settled a lot so I topped up with compost and seaweed (as fertilizer) last year. Hopefully they are just working their way up through it!

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

I'm a bit concerned that after a good first year mine haven't even come out of the ground yet.

Luckily each one came with a list of the grain bill, hops and all timings etc. So replicating is relatively easy. But not as easy as buying the kits, which were outstanding value.

All of the Dark Revolution AG kits I got from BrewUK were top notch. I'm glad I stocked up on a few just before BrewUK went under. I would be really happy to see Dark Revolution AG kits available elsewhere.

Letting beer settle before pitching yeast

I transfer the wort into 10 litre plastic buckets (with lids) when I've cooled it to around 50C. I then leave it in the buckets overnight to cool to 18C or so. Then I tip each bucket into the fermenter, leaving the settled out trub behind. I add the dried yeast before the second bucket is poured...

Me too Sandimas. Luckily I got an order delivered in January and looking at the invoice I got AG kits with ridiculous amounts of hops for well under £20. Outstanding value for money.

They are/were my go-to shop. I really like their all grain kits for the quality and the yeast was optional, so I could use CML or harvested yeast. I found them fantastic value for money. Took the VAT off and only charged £15 shipping to get it to me. My last order was close to 40Kg! I'll be...

    Brewzilla Temp problem

I do stir a lot as I find a huge variation in temp through the mash, plus I'm a fiddler! Out of interest is a stepped mash just a way of getting better efficiency, or are there flavour benefits too?

    Brewzilla Temp problem

I love this forum! I've exactly the same problem on my last 2 brewdays. Seemingly stuck mash and temperature sky high, but the wort temp way too low. Coincidentaly I was also trying a stepped mash at 40, 50, 60 and 70C and I think the low starting temp of the mash was causing it to become stuck...

Help with my first Lager please.

Update on this one. All airlock activity stopped for a couple of days and it was ay 1.008. But the sample definitely tasted of diacetyl so I upped the temp to 18C for 3 days. Airlock activity started up again too. Just tasted a sample and the yeast has done it's job on the diacetyl nicely, which...

Help! I think im obsessed! Whats your homebrew story?

I started brewing fairly recently, Jan 2021, during the second of our Covid lockdowns. Not that it was the lockdown that forced me as the Offy was allowed to open as an "essential shop"! Started with kits and completely ruined the first 3 by constantly peering, stirring and panicy fiddling with...

    Mini Kegs.

Yeah, the description on the BrewUK site says they are steel. I'll avoid them.
