    Homebrew beginner

I wish I'd joined this forum from before day 1. I was doing extract kits then and ruined 4 due to bad methods. A wealth of info on here. If you can't find the answers, just ask.

    What did you brew today?

Finally a dry afternoon, so I took the opportunity to brew a Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra clone. The AG kit (from MM) was for 19 litres but as usual I want more! So I added another kilo of pale malt and added 10 minutes to the boil time to up the ABV and IBUs. Got 23 litres at OG of 1.065. So...

Anyone used the 5L Mini Growlr kegs?

I've got a couple of the Vevor 8 litre kegs, with taps and CO2 regulators, from Aliexpress. They take a bit of getting used to the pouring operation, but having watched the video posted on this thread I realise I was trying it with too much pressure. Luckily it has a spunding valve. I kept a...

    Brewzilla dead

As an addition to this thread, my Brewzilla 3.1.1 1900w element stopped working. Thought it was needing a replacement element but they are an integral part of the 'Zilla, so it was looking like a scrapper. I asked on some Facebook group (American) and someone suggested swapping the switches over...

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

Awesome. Hope they do the same All Grain kits.

    7kg Grain Bill in a 35l Brewzilla?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll put this one off until I've got more time I think. The recipe says it should be 11.3% ABV and to be honest I don't mind too much if I don't achieve that!

    7kg Grain Bill in a 35l Brewzilla?

The recipe already calls for 2kg of sugar in the boil! I might have to deploy my old cool box mash tun, but no chance of a stepped mash with that.

    7kg Grain Bill in a 35l Brewzilla?

Yes, all mixed up in one bag.

    7kg Grain Bill in a 35l Brewzilla?

Hi All. I've got a Trappist Rochefort all grain kit to do but the 7kg grain bill in my Brewzilla concerns me. Also the recipe calls for a stepped mash, which I find always results in a stuck mash and a couple of hours of faffing. Is it possible to do two separate mashes and combine the 2 worts...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Sticking with Duvel. This time Tripel Hop Cashmere. Not as smooth as the Citra but a nice drop nevertheless. Check out the new bottle brush too. Only 1 euro and it fits through the neck of the bottle!

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Next up, Duvel Triple Hop Citra. 9.5% IPA. Lovely but this glass isn't helping!

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

I haven't contributed much recently but as we're in Cherbourg for the weekend it's an ideal opportunity to try some great beer. First trip to the supermarket I got 7 different bottles. First up Goudale IPA. Rubbish head retention but 50 IBUs of Simcoe and Cascade. 7.2%. Nice.

    Nicks90's Brewdays

That sounds like a nice and simple brew. I may well copy it and brew a few hop user uppers.

    CML

Arrrrghh! They became my go to after the demise of BrewUK for AG kits. I'll still use them for hops and yeast though. Worcester Hop Shop have a great range of AG kits but after contacting them about shipping it just is too cost prohibitive for me.

    Soapy Taste.

Thanks for your help Sadfield. I'll keep the beer in cold and dark and try it every now and again. Also I think I'll give up harvesting yeast, especially as CML are so cheap.

    Soapy Taste.

Yes it was trub harvested and stored in the fridge for about 6 months. I think you could well be right. Will it go away in time?

    Soapy Taste.

One thought though. The yeast was harvested from a previous batch of Proper Job and that one's yeast was cultured from a bottle of PJ. So it's a second generation. Went off like a rocket though!
  18. Little Rock Brewing

    Soapy Taste.

It was in the fermenter for 3 weeks. FG sample and taste test at 2 weeks showed the soapy taste. Very little trub in the FV as my procedure is to cool to about 40C then into containers overnight to settle and cool before pouring into the FV. Thereby leaving nearly all the trub behind. I've never...

    Soapy Taste.

I'd have to check as it was an AG kit from the now defunct BrewUK. Got the kit just before they went under, in January.

    Soapy Taste.

Well it's a no to soap residue for sure. wink... Maybe it was your second reason but the taste was there at 2 weeks into fermentation, hence leaving it longer.
