Hi @Drunkula
The Herculometers have a single scale, but come in three varieties. I have the "finishing" model for easier measurement of FV, as well as a more general model for OG.
Hi!
The best way to get a wort correction factor is to measure FV with hydrometer and refractometer over 15 to 20 brews.
Your way will give you a close enough approximation.
Hi @Neil1454
I've looked on the Homebrew Shop; they have Sodium Metabisulphate for £4.44, but I can't see any sodium percarbonate.
The best deals are on ebay.
Astonish Oxi Cleaner works well: I get mine from Home Bargains or B&M.
I've only noticed a chalky deposit on bottles with an oxi cleaner...
Hi!
The expansion of the volume of water in relation to heat is not linear, so if you want accurate sparge volumes, add your scale when the water is at sparge temperature.
You may need a dual scale, the second for boil volume.
I bet you thought this was going to be simple :D
Hi!
You may want to look into overbuilding your starter - making more than you need and storing the excess in the fridge to be used as the basis of another starter.
As I tried to explain in my earlier post, Yes.
However, as @Leon103 wrote, just measure out 5 litres of water into your FV and mark off the level of the water.
No need to weigh it.
However, we are assuming that you have a measuring jug.
