Wood burners and open fires face restrictions in new clean air plan

Hi! A former student of mine had an open fire that he called a "smoke eater" - he burned coal in a smokeless zone.

Stout - best yeast to use?

Hi! If you are going with dried yeast, I'd go to Wilkos and grab a couple of sachets of Gervin English Ale yeast.

    Is This An Adequate Boil?

Hi! Your video is an almost perfect example of a rolling boil. It does not need to be more vigorous.

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi @skulltat280 The Maximum Protection spray instructions say: No need to rinse except for surfaces in contact with food Stick with the Sterilising Solution; put the spray in the kitchen cupboard!

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi! I don't like the look of that spray bottle if you plan to use it as a no-rinse sanitiser, but that's only me.

    Lowictz Spotted In ASDA!

Hi! Did it turn out very dry? I have seen posts recommending using a low-attenuating yeast, like Danstar Windsor.

    Carbing multiple cornies?

Hi! A m,anifold, or the cheaper option, a splitter, allows you to keep multiple kegs at the same pressure. Secondary regulators allow you to maintain different pressures in different kegs. https://rlbs.ltd.uk/v340g-secondary-reducing-regulator-with-pass-through-wall-mount-with-1-gauge.html...

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi! I had trouble with residue when I used Wizz Oxi to remove labels from bottles. I simply sloshed some vinegar around each bottle and poured it into the next - it doesn't take much. I would try a cupful of vinegar shaken around in the sealed keg then inspect the results.

    Keg or Bottles

Hi @Alistair Miller Use the kit but ditch the yeast and buy some appropriate yeast that is in date.

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi! Don't fear the foam! The foam that is produced when applying Starsan is actually a nutrient for the yeast, so don't worry about it. Starsan is a no-rinse sanitiser, so not only is there any need to rinse, it could be harmful to your wort. For brewing purposes, we have to view tap water as...

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi @skulltat280 I forgot to say: I use 3125ml water, add 25ml bleach, mix it up and then add 5ml distilled vinegar. 3215 is an odd amount, I know, but it makes it easier to measure the bleach and vinegar. They are both at approximately 80 parts per million in the final solution. I was writing as...

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

Hi @skulltat280 1. The residue from the oxi product can be removed with vinegar. 2. Don't give up on the bleach/vinegar sanitiser - I've used it for over a year now and had no problems whatsoever. Make sure that it's the cheapest bleach you can find. 3. I would clean your new products, just to...

    New Equipment Advice

Hi @Kristian Purcell You won't need a voltage regulator for the pump - fit a ball valve on the output to control the flow. It is a magnetic pump and restricting the output does no harm to the pump. One question: does your ACE have two on/off switches or just one?

    New Equipment Advice

Hi @Kristian Purcell You probably won't need to strip and clean it, simply pump hot water through it to rinse out the wort residue. This is the pump I went for. It works really well and I've had no problems with it. I fancy this type of pump - more expensive. The voltage regulator I went for is...
