    BREW2BOTTLE

Same here, I buy from them 2-3 times a year. Need to order soon and just checked, prices have gone up a bit so maybe they've cleared the old stock now and are getting new in at inflated prices?

    Attenuation Issues

How are you storing your yeast and how old is it? I accidentally opened a packet of Wheat Beer yeast when brewing an ale, re-sealed it and kept it in the fridge, only managed a measly 49% attenuation when I got round to using it. I find that some dark beers finish high too. But using a standrd...

    1st Ever infection,, saveable ?

We've all been there but that pelllicle is pretty impressive. I get them 1-2 times a year, usually around this time of year. A good soak in diluted bleach should fix things for the future.

Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Pale as my second ever AG brew

A great beer that, a real tasty brew - must make it again.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

On Sunday I found a rogue Challenger rhizone so re-planted it on the opposite side of the path where the other end of the arch support structure is. In 48hrs it's grown enough to almost reach the support bines. Happy days - more free hops

    Cascade smash?

Don't worry too much about not knowing the AA for your home-grown Cascade, there's a fairly narrow range for the British variety 5.3-6.8% so plumping for say 6% in your calculations and you won't be far off. I do this with my own home-grown Cascade. Really simple recipe I use: 95% Pale Malt, 5%...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

End of April and the Styrian Goldings are the clear winners, already at the top of the supports Challenger are playing catch-up but are now on the go Cascade are barely out of the soil and not even onto the supports yet :-( Been a very dull/cold spring so maybe that's the reason? Be...

ESB for my first ever all-grain brew day

If your stockpot will fit in the oven with the shelves removed, stick it on minimum and put the mash in there - that's what I do and it helps keep the temp constant.

    Witbier - which wheat?

Good recipe that, I've always used malted wheat and it comes out fine. In fact you've just prompted me to make it again.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Last year was interesting and probably the worst year so far for me: the Styrian Goldings & Challenger had a nice early growth spurt but the dry spell in late Spring made them all shrivel up. They recovered to a degree, but the Cascade had a more linear growth and was the best in 2023...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

No sign of my Cascade yet which is a bit worrying, although they do grow at different rates : my Challenger is about 2ft high but the clear winner so far is these Styrian Goldings, they look about 5ft high, could reach the top of the support by the end of the month. Edit: just found the...

    Yet another new member...

I'm not far from you, sad to hear that Pops is calling it a day, he started me off home brewing 13 years ago: my first brew was his made-up kit Golden Citrus Blast. With Wilko going too, there is nothing locally. The Malt Miller is down at Swindon is you don't mind a bit of a drive. Other than...

Keg or bottle my 1st Stout

I prefer to bottle my stouts, in fact I'll be doing one this weekend if it's finished fermenting.

    Use em up Stout

Was going to suggest Cacao Nibs (available from Tesco etc), which I've just added to my stout, but see you've gone with cocoa.....let us know how it turns out.

    What was your first car?

My cousin's first car was a Viva he customised, got some bits off a Viva GT in the scrapyard (inc bonnet with scoops), fitted sidepipes, jacked it up with Range Rover springs and painted it gold underneath. Was a bit of a beast but came to an untimely end: it was jacked up so much that when he...

    What was your first car?

Same here. I had the coupe just like this one, loved that car but it disintegrated into a pile of rust very quickly. This was my 2nd car, first was a Mk.1 Ford Escort which also rusted to bits. After that I bought new, a Ford XR2.....which also rusted to bits!

    Greg Hughes recipes

Tin Miners is great, Spring Beer is a bit meh to my taste. Great book, I've made many of the recipes, London Bitter and Irish Red are two of my favourites.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

That mirrors our 2023 summer here in the UK, both my hops and chillies were poor. In fact, I've been growing chillis for almost 20 years and there was just no heat in any of them last summer, I guess it was the lack of sunlight: was warm enough, just cloudy nearly every day. 2024 seems to be...
