Klarstein Fullhorn boiler won't switch on

Ah, mine is the same for the element lights but I have the digital thermometer and that always lights up on plugging in. It did it. I set my temp and next thing I knew it had gone blank and that was that.

Klarstein Fullhorn boiler won't switch on

Packed the wife and kids off for a forest walk and got all my kit sanitised and ready for a double brew day today. Switch the boiler on to heat the strike water, set the temperature and go off to grab the rest of the kit. When I came back the boiler was off and no matter what I do I can't get...

    Lunch break idea

Good way of putting it @Hoddy , I can do that: - I have pale because its my base malt for a pale ale and the carapils is for head retention (I know its debatable, I've read the brulosophy stuff, I just always have either carapils or more commonly torrified wheat in at around this level). -...

M54 California Lager yeast lag time?

Looks like you guys were right. Thanks for the re-assurance. I have not bottled yet but the morning after I posted this the M54 starting chugging away, and its now totally finished, the M36 still produces the occassional burp. I'll bottle on Friday probably.

M54 California Lager yeast lag time?

Hi there, I brewed a kind of Oktoberfest/Marzen on Sunday and used Mangrove Jacks M54 California Lager yeast. I pitched at around 22 degrees which is a little higher than the recommended but after 15 additional minutes of cooling I could not get it lower (we are 8 weeks or so into a 35 degree...

    Martin's Brewday

The beer came out very well, it is just more like a slightly hoppy porter than a Black IPA. The late hop additions didn't come through as much as I hoped, will have to double them up next time! Cheers!

    Using Vienna

Thanks @GerritT i think the friend that suggested this recipe to me probably does it because he had read something similar (albeit 80/15/5 rather than 85/10/5) and thanks @MickDundee - although I think I'll stick at the lower end this time (mainly because the other recipe I have for Vienna is a...

    Using Vienna

Hi there, I think Vienna is the only "major" malt I am yet to use so I have been putting together a couple of recipes to try and learn about it. The first is a rather simple single hop (Mosaic) pale ale and this is my grain bill: Pale ale malt 3.2kg Vienna malt 0.6kg Carapils 0.2kg Aiming to...

And the Sarson's award goes to...

Not sure I should admit this but in one of my best brews I tasted the sample and accidentally spat it into the wort. Beer was brilliant.

    Foaming adding dextrose

I found this and since I started dissolving the dextrose in a little water before dumping it in I don't get the foam. Not sure if its a good thing or not.

    Beavertown sells to Heineken

Whilst not my #1 recommendation for visitors there's enough in Plzeň to keep you busy. On the beer front the Urquell brewery is probably worth a visit although the restaurant had gone downhill the last time I visited. There is a small pub in between the brewery and centre which is the only place...

    Beavertown sells to Heineken

Probably going to get ripped into for this but it happens to be true so... As msot of you probably know the UK is not the only country where Heineken has targetd smaller breweries. There are a bunch over here in Prague that are now owned by Heineken. I reacted in much the same way as most...

    OG and FG questions

I live in Prague where we have also had very warm weather but we generally do so the water is pretty consistant. I didn't take a mash ph but the water was 7, as usual. I'll pay attention next time and take a ph reading of the mash itself. good point.

    Martin's Brewday

Got a notification that this thread had some new replies! I just brewed the Black IPA from the Hughes book as well, although I had to change the hop schedule since I had a bit of Nugget and Cascade to use up. I don't think I have ever been able to brew exactly from a recipe without having to...

    OG and FG questions

Hi there, I had a problem on my last two brews that I have not really encountered before. I did two brews back-to-back same day and missed the OG by about 0.006-8 on both brews and then missed the FG by about 0.004 even after recalculating from the new OG. So this means my efficiency was...

    UKIP has a new leader

Ken L - I apologised for that. I usually come on here during the day for some respite from heavy work stuff, I've never been in the snug as I usually hang out in the recipes and general brewing forums but for some reason this discussion popped up yesterday in my alerts thing. I'll bear it in...

SMaSH Citra Pale Ale Recipe Advice

Love it, this is a perfect example of different peoples approaches and yet an almost identical result. I was pushing for a slightly higher OG in case of less efficiency so bumped up to 1kg from around 800g originally. :-) The same with the IBUs from the first addition.
