    Greg Hughes Spring Beer

I can get 100g of it over here for about the same price. Its not really the money, more whether its worth the effort (and the thick ear from her indoors) if I order a pack of hops from a supplier I never use (and lets face it, the basket is going to end up having more than just a pack of hops...

    American pale/IPA recipe

I've used flaked barley in stouts, bitters and an ESB but never in a pale ale, interesting idea for the scrapbook. I can use the Columbus to do the job your magnum does. Then either use up the rest of my cascade and summit or use the pekko or do a amarillo/citra/mosaic late hop. but i think...

What are the best types of bottles? Where do you get them from? Share your opinions...

Still, the sort of hurdles that I like to attempt in this foolish hobby. Let me see if I can find any information. Shame as I was just in Chicago a few weeks ago and a colleague headed from there to Detroit, could have passed them on, although 20 700ml bottles would put a dent in the luggage...

The mechanism is fine so I guess it is just the cap washers that need replacing (is that the gasket?). I know I can buy replacements here but in all honesty I dont mind just switching to all crown caps. Happy to pass them on but not sure of the logistics between Prague and Detroit?

I'm about to cash in all my 700ml flip tops, the seals have gone and I have an over abundance of crown cap 700s and 750s and the local beer store will give me a refund on the flip tops so... its like free beer. the more you drink the more you get back. I normally bottle my brews into a combo of...

    American pale/IPA recipe

Hi there, I've got something I want to try. I've brewed a few pale ales that have been pale malt to about 75-80% of the bill, then 15-20% of Vienna or Munich and 5% carapils. I've also done a couple that are about 75% pale then a combination of melanoidin, caramunich III (crystal 60ish) and...

    Greg Hughes Spring Beer

Hi there, One of the best beers I ever brewed was based on the Spring Beer by Greg Hughes. However due to ingredients constraints at the time I substituted the Galaxy/Wai-Iti hop combo for Cascade/Citra (more or less same schedule but with a Citra dry hop added) and had double the Munich to...

Amarillo Single Hop Ale - Greg Hughes

There is sometimes the suggestion to dry hop in a little Brewers Tip toward the bottom of the page in the 2013 edition (e.g. on the Spring Beer pg 112 or the EKG single hop on 119). Totally agree with the list of the single hop recipes, glad to hear that has been addressed in the new edition...

    Yoopers APA

Going to attempt Yoopers APA that I found on another forum and that seems to be up there with Ed Worts pale as a legendary home brew recipe. For what its worth this is my intended recipe for tomorrow, after I have converted to the metric system (insert Pulp Fiction line), switched to the...

    Greg Hughes Yorkshire Bitter

Perfect, thanks so much @an-ankou! Nice to see it in French also. Now the usual translation into Czech to order! :-)

    Greg Hughes Yorkshire Bitter

Wondering if anyone has this book within reach and would be able to post the recipe? I'm at work and was planning to put an order in but forgot the book so don't know what I need!!

    Oatmeal Stout..

Looking at this exact recipe in GH right now. Did you brew this in the end and if so how did it come out?

    Dry hopping too long?

Hi there, I may have screwed up. I put some cascade pellets in a hop bag in the FV about a week before going on holiday and one thing led to another (sick kids, tying work stuff up) and I forgot to take them out. I've two FVs in my. Pantry that are now sitting for two weeks. Question is, by...

    Smoked porter

Thanks guys, especially Hoddy. That is great info. I've literally just doughed in. Was delayed like 5 mins still recalculating the grain bill. In the end I did increase the smoked to the max that I had (1kg) and reduced the carafa malts. Like this : 3kg pale 1kg smoked 250g caraaroma 125g...

    Smoked porter

Hi there, I am planning a Smoked Porter tomorrow and have the basic recipe calculated, I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the grain bill. I like smoked beers a lot so don't mind if its quite "pungent" but i don't want to make it undrinkable for visitors etc. There is so much...

Mangrove Jacks heating pad and thermostat

Love the look of that. I do have something similar but a bit more lo-fi and untidy made from an old sleeping bag and some loft insulation but at the current temperature in the cellar even that is not enough without a warming source :-(

Mangrove Jacks heating pad and thermostat

Hi there, As winter is in full flow now and I still have one more ale to brew before switching to pilsners for a couple of months due to lower temps I am looking at investing in a heating system to keep the FV at least at a fermentable temperature. I've had to move a a pale ale from the cellar...

    Crystal in Greg Hughes recipes

thanks for all the replies guys. I like the idea of pumping the recipe in somewhere and then working out which crystal based on the expected SRM, I'll give that a go when i get round to brewing one of those recipes. (Otherwise I'll just use whatever I have a bit of left in my growing bucket of...

    Crystal in Greg Hughes recipes

Hi there, I tend to brew a lot of recipes based on those in the GH book. However recently I've come across a couple which state simply "Crystal malt" but without any indication of whether it should be 60, 120, 40, 10 etc. Anyone got any advice in that case of how dark to go? I was thinking...

Klarstein Fullhorn boiler won't switch on

Just an update, got the wife to call the supplier, they arranged for a courier to come and collect it today and said they'll either fix it or replace it. So so far so good. As long as they don't come back with a claim that it was improperly used or anything (it hasn't been). Inconvenient but...
