    Mac daddy bouncer

I have a large bouncer, if you have a lot of particles in your wort then yeah, but you'll need to buy the extra filters if it's fine particles. If you use one post ferment, make sure you are careful to fill it properly so as to purge air etc so as you don't end up filling your beer with air...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

Try adding either some rinsed rice hulls or oat husks to your grist, it'll make for a "looser" grist allowing the liquid to flow more freely whilst recirculating. Of course, you could also fit a tap on the outlet of your pump if it's magnetic drive (if it's not, then you're limited to voltage...

    The Great Watney's debate

I was just doing some reading, and read that allegedly it was Watney's Red that was awful as it was towards the end of the decline of Red Barrel that that came out. Red Barrel supposedly started out quite good (95% malt, fairly decent hopping), apart from been killed then kegged, but declined...

    The Great Watney's debate

My dad actually asked if I could brew him some Watney's Red Barrel, apparently he loved it back in the day... Saying that his other fave was Newcastle Brown Ale, until he tried a bottle recently and discovered that they made it even nastier. lol I said I'd try to brew him a decent brown ale...

Any Fastferment conical FV users out there?

Not here (as in not me...), as every review on here and anywhere else was pretty damning.... You'd be doing yourself a favour to look into a fermentasaurus, fermzilla, or if you never plan to ferment under pressure (I don't either...) something like the Brewmonk stainless steel conical (which...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

Hi, back pressure reduce the lifespan of most pumps. As to recirc, yeah you end up with back pressure when you are doing it, usually via using a tap after the pump to control the flow, but not because of aerating the wort but rather to stop the pump from creating a void under the grain which...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

Yeah, I use platinum cured silicone hoses and stainless steel for anything hot side, probably best policy to be honest. I try to avoid mixing metals too... Oh, re airline clamps, I don't know if you've seen them, but they're pretty diddy. Used them many times as one of my other hobbies is...

    Does anyone use...

That's a relief, as I got mine direct, so was a bit worried about warranty support etc as it's not that old... lol It's mostly a really nice machine, just wish it had the malt basket plate design of the Brewmonk/Brewdevil/Robobrew and the camlock on the recirc pipe that they have. The sparge...

    Does anyone use...

Just a reminder regarding Klarstein, the company themselves are no longer shipping to the UK as their couriers will longer ship here, so buying direct, and possibly sourcing parts down the line, is not going to happen for now. I have a Klarstein Brauheld Pro myself, bought direct, and believe...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

They won't, see my post about PVC been a thermoplastic, only good up to 60 degrees C, above that it degrades and leeches.

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

In PC water cooling you can buy a plastic helix that wraps around the outside of the hose to allow for tighter bends without kinking, no idea if it would work with the larger diameter silicone hose though, I used stainless steel 90 degree elbows and fittings for tight bends, along with ptfe tape...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

You seriously need to switch out the PVC for platinum cured silicone. PVC with hot liquids is a big no no. It's a thermoplastic, so over time will begin to degrade and break down. PVC is fine cold side, but hot side you need to be using silicone.

    Wort recirculation Vs not

I don't know if others do it differently, but I find that even with a programmable machine that it's still hands on. The only difference is that now my machine handles the timings and alarms, rather than Beersmith on my phone (I often do both to be honest though... lol), oh and the ease of...

    Wort recirculation Vs not

Agreed, as it basically vorlaufs for you if you do it right. I mean, the top plate on my Brauheld Pro is infamously bad (I had to open it up more with a screwdriver) but still super clear wort into the boil and into the FV, even on a poorly designed machine. You can stand with a jug...

    Wort recirculation Vs not

I have a Klarstein Brauheld Pro, a tip I will give you is to check reviews regarding the bottom plate in the grain basket when buying a machine. They're too large in the Brauheld Pro IMHO. I had to adapt to this by buying a grain mill and now I buy my malt uncrushed then crush it myself, as if...

    Fermenting under pressure

That was the point I was trying to make, but some folks are too hung up on trying to keep method and equipment separate, which to be quite honest seems a bit daft to me, especially when it's for something that needs specialised equipment to do.... Good luck fermenting under pressure in a bucket...

    Fermenting under pressure

My 2 pence worth, there shouldn't be a need to debate them, they're just another tool available to brewers, and like any tool you have to use it correctly. If you put a screw in using a hammer, that's not what a hammer is for.... Also, like everything, for almost every pro, there's a con...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

Sure, here you go.... lol Just a 90 degree elbow, a brew builder pick up tube and a camlock male fitting, easy. Attach hose to camlock, position pick up tube in or near IC, and because it was narrower it created a jet. I've seen fancier made with copper as you can bend copper more easily so...

    Klarstein Maischfest and Mashing

I was able to hit over 75% efficiency without the pump, but yeah definitely more consistency thanks to more even mash temps. More importantly, no need to vorlauf (I love nice clear wort into the boil) as the pump did it for me in effect. I used the same pump when it came time to cool, pumping...

What's a good FV to use

I've had one of those for a while now, and having used a few, I am going to go ahead and say they're probably one of the best you can get. Very easy to clean and use, and the massive airlock you can get for them is fantastic, or you can just put a tap on the top and use it as a blow off. Heck...
