    Driven to Homebrew

I have a sous vide machine, maybe an idea for small batches. Edit: Oh, and welcome to the home brew world. :-)

Fermentasaurus, Fermzilla or Fast Ferment. Which to buy?

I have the FermZilla and if I was to turn back time, I think I'd buy an "All rounder". Harvesting your yeast and zero oxygen dry hopping is great, but the messing about with the endless seals, take away from the brewing experience. Plus, an "All rounder" would fit into a smaller fridge. Have a...

    Robobrew stuck sparge

@foxy - I think it was your post on another thread that pointed at mash thickness and maybe using full volume. Pointed me at: http://braukaiser.com/wiki/index.php/Understanding_Efficiency Yes it was the APA by David Heath on brewfather. Malts (4.789 kg) 2.2 kg (45.9%) — BestMalz Pale Ale —...

    Robobrew stuck sparge

I know this is a slightly old thread now, but it is exactly what I've experienced over the weekend. Aimed for a Pre-boil of 1.044 got 1.022. :-( -Brewzilla all in one system - Used the fine mesh. -I had oat hulls mixed in 100g, which is a lot (maybe too much) -Pilsener malt & pale malt...

    Neipa oxidisation

I'm still new to brewing having done a number of kits and 2 AG brews, but my NEIPA has been bottled for over a month now and not showing signs of discolouring. I'm now wondering if I've been lucky or because i used closed counter pressure bottle filling. I am going to carry on brewing them them...

    Drying yeast at home

Since I bought a fermZilla, I thought it would be rude not to try this since it has that collection jar. I watched David's video and during this lock down gave it a go. Using a big plastic box (under bed storage), I mounted my 40W bar heater to the inside and used the ink-bird to maintain 30c. I...

Fasting to reset the immune system

Fasting works for me as a good way of dropping weight for my rock climbing. I only eat once in a 24Hr period. I can keep this up for about 14 days. The science behind the other benefits i would say is "at an early stage" at best. You need to be super careful though and not just try fasting...

    Still using kits

One of the main issues you will have is a massive risk of infection in the stored wort. I think a 25Lr fermentation vessel from wilko for £10 is going to be a great investment. It is still open for essentials too.

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

1015 is perfect. Give it another day or two and take another reading. If the same reading, prime you bottles with sugar and get the beer bottled.

How To Use Salifert Alkalinity and Calcium Test Kits

Read all of your posts on water treatment Steve and they have been great, this one is no exception.

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

Morning, I've done this kit and it is not bad at all. Oh and welcome to the home brew club. Lets see if i can answer your questions, 1. Air lock activity is only a rough guide. The best way to ensure that fermentation has successfully finished is by taking a hydrometer reading to check if you...

psi for closed transfer of beer

Yeah that simple, that is around the numbers I currently use and have never had a problem. Using your spunding valve, only lower your keg pressure a little bit at first. so the first few liters transfers slowly.

Small batch AG Brews - Fermentation

Oh nice one. I lack some experience so I really appreciate the advice. I'll make sure I give an update.

Small batch AG Brews - Fermentation

Cheers Terrym, I will put it out of my mind a while and enjoy tonight home brew meetup. Fermzilla is both a blessing and a curse Lots of advantages, but loads of seals and parts. I hope to use the collection jar to harvest some yeast during this fermentation, see how that goes. Here is a...

Small batch AG Brews - Fermentation

The good thing about the Fermzilla is you can see the fermentation in action. The krausen looks to still be bubbling. There might be an easy explanation. The 4 year old might have turned the spunding valve down, which would explain the pressure drop. I'll check when I get back in tonight and...
