    Fermzilla

Long term, you want to find a way to replace your CO2 with compressed air for testing / cleaning. I'm lucky and have an air compressor, but i bet you could also use a bike pump too. Save you loads of CO2 going forward.

    Fermzilla

I used to hate mine, the amount of stress it had brought is just daft. Top seal was rubbish leaking co2, bottom seal/s leaked when beer was in. Mega stress. However now, with a new o-ring (top), two tools and some experience it works. Just make sure you fill it with water, pressurise it and...

    Fermzilla

I leave the hops in there till i keg the beer. I've been leaning more towards a colder, shorter dry hop. Then cold crash the beer for a 2 days. Also, i do not move the fermenter once chilled and I leave a small amount of beer 1/4". Not had any grassy flavours so far. :-) Hop utilization i...

    Fermzilla

For me, the key is having two of those tools. One on the Jar, one on the collar. This gives you two handles that makes like easy. I was lucky, I had one in the tool kit for removal of car oil filters. For the record, i would have bought an all rounder or snub nose if the option has been...

    Pump or hoist?

Oh this has got me thinking..... I'm a biker so this would by dual use for me: Brewzilla on top. Nice and low for mash in, whirlpool ect... Raise it so the steam can get out of the window when on a boil. and i like this...... when pulling the malt pipe out. The pipe can be fixed to the roof...

    Using biscuits in the mash

Double check, but i think the yeast do not like fat either. If it is a high gravity beer, you want to give your yeast the best conditions possible. Maybe a flavour extract might be the best route.

30 litre speidel, will it fit in an undercounter fridge?

That's a full sized Fermzilla in a under counter fridge. No able to take the collection jar off though when it's in there.

    Fermenting under pressure

Having just read all 8 pages, this thread will defo influence my process going forward. I wonder what the effect of negative 5psi would be on the easters. Do people at high altitude get improved flavour? 10, 000ft brewday anyone?

    Next homebrew investment

I should have read the previous post before voting. :laugh8: Nice looking setup!!!

Does anyone else use their hop spider in this way.

I am ashamed to admit, but i did once have a overflow due to it clogging. Was taking a picture as it happened and i just froze. Pint of wort all over. Now i spin the wort around the side walls as it flows in, does not clog the sides up. Plus i can not take selfies whilst doing this.

@obscure - If you do, then sanitize the outside the feed pipe going into the hop spider. You can then use it to swirl around, sending the junk to the bottom (of the hop spider), keeping the sides free to drain.

I must admit, i've never used a Protofloc, but the stirred whirlpool + rest, is also a must in my process too. I do get some junk out. My last hot side hop addition was 80g in a half batch. Plus, i try and get every last bit out. :laugh8:

Does anyone else use their hop spider in this way.

Ages back, I found that my hop spider sits perfectly in my fermzilla opening. So ever since, i use it as a pre filter. Just thought I'd share, since reading a couple of post of junk getting into FV.

    What BBQ?

I have both a gas bbq (B&N) and a offset smoker (Aldi £60). At some point I'd like to upgrade and my money will be going the offset smoker direction. It is so much fun building a little fire in the firebox, it feels like a totally different experience to the kitchen. My daughter keeping it...

    Blow tie spunding valve

I also use a blow tie spunding valve and my process is the same as yours. Pressurise a bottle over my required PSI, and via the spunding valve, reduce the pressure to the PSI i'm wanting for fermentation. It is 100% set and forget, just got an IPA on at the moment that has been 12PSI without...

    N2 Regulator wanted

Cool, I have a spare co2 reg, might give it a run on a bottle of n2 co2 mix, just need an adapter.

    N2 Regulator wanted

Are Co2 Regs different. I ask because, I've seen adapters for them to fit beer/gas bottles.

    RO water

Not an expert, so double check, but i think RO water treatment also removes many of the desired minerals from the water. Especially the systems with resin. Most of the time, our current water profile is good enough, just needs some adjustment. Even if you have a mineral too high for a particular...

    What's ya cost saver?

@prog99 - That was an interesting read!!!! Right then... challenge on.. A recycled beer. The plan Parti-Gyle recycled grain. 2nd Gen Bittering and whirlpool hops. Harvested yeast. Re-use Co2 from fermentation to perge bottles / keg. Fresh water despite some suggestions. No twang wanted...
