    CML yeast recommendation

Is MB Draught the same as Mauribrew 514? I've never seen MB Draught for sale.

    CML yeast recommendation

I used the kolsch yeast once or twice, a few years ago. and it was pretty good. I suspect that other CML yeasts are suitable for kolsch type beers. Hog Norsk maybe? Kentucky? California Common? And what about Haze? I made one beer with Kentucky and didn't like the beer. As the years have passed...

Mashing at 96C by mistake!! HELP!

I hope you haven't chucked it? Unless it tasted bad and I doubt it did. I don't use a fixed mash temperature, I just mash on a low heat to allow the temperature to rise from 50 ish to about 80 when I take the grain out. It takes longer than 20 minutes but conversion doesn't take long. I think...

    CML yeast recommendation

I'm particularly interested in opinions on any of these: CML version of Lalbrew New England? CML version of K-97? CML version of T-58? Best CML for hoppy pales Best CML for bitters? Best CML kolsch style yeast?

    CML yeast recommendation

I looked at that to compile the list above. It doesn't have a yeast comparison for every CML yeast, and I wondered what people had found from using the yeasts.

    CML yeast recommendation

If that exists yes. 2 quid sachet of brewery quality yeast sounds a bit unlikely to me. Depends what we mean by brewery quality I guess.

    CML yeast recommendation

Hi folks. I'm wondering about getting some CML yeasts that match the big brands and wonder if you can confirm from experience which of these have close matches... S-04 - Four? US-05 - Five? Lalbrew New England - none? S-23 - Hell? K-97 - Hog Norsk? T-58 - Flushed Nun? Maybe we need a table...

LALBREW NEW ENGLAND v VERDANT IPA

Wyeast 1968 and the Conan strain are genetically similar. Check out the chart... https://beer.suregork.com/?p=4112 Lalbrew New England is a dried form of the Conan strain. Verdant IPA is a dried form of the Verdant brewery yeast, and they have told us that they started out with 1318 and...

LALBREW NEW ENGLAND v VERDANT IPA

Verdant is a close relative of 1318. I think New England/ Conan is a relative of 1968/002 rather than 1318. iirc.

    Simpson Brown Malt

I've never knowingly bought it, but that's a pretty significant colour difference isn't It? It is pretty much half way between amber and chocolate malt in terms of EBC. Simpson's describe it thus... "Our Brown Malt imparts a rich coffee aroma ideal for Stouts and Porters. It delivers a smooth...

Malt Miller hops lucky dip selection

The Homebrew Company has quite a few hop varieties from the 2022 crop in the £2.75 to £3.50 range. Other sellers have similar too. Maltmiller has got very expensive. Great service and quality but not cheap.

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

So Maltmiller made such a video showing how to use Brewlab slopes about a month ago. Hurray. This is a small leap for people who only use packs of dried yeast, but not for liquid yeast users who must make starters occasionally at least. Anyone can do it. And the advantages are obvious, you pitch...

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

There's a variance certainly. I'm also saying that the best way to prepare yeast for a healthy fermentation is with a starter. It's an easy and quick task so why not do it? The only issue is planning it 2 or 3 days before brew day but it's a key part of making beer - pitching the best yeast you...

Fermentation tub, to fasten lid tight or not?

I would fill higher than that to limit oxygen. Transfer when FG has been steady for a few days, fermentation complete. Fermentation may start again on transfer. Use an airlock to allow any gas out.

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

It feels like you're over complicating things somewhat! I've never done any science since school and I struggled with it there. I just followed the instructions from Brewlab and it was very easy. If they had a short video people would see how easy. If they became popular people would crack on to...

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

I partially agree because a lot of people will not buy slopes as they'll see them as lab geek paraphernalia. I disagree because liquid yeast often arrives in less than great condition and needs a starter. The Brewlab slopes provide yeast in very good condition. And there is nobody less...
