    WLP4040 Midwestern Ale Yeast

I'm not too concerned about a clear beer and I expect a little bit of hazy unless I'm aiming to make it super clear...but even then :)

    WLP4040 Midwestern Ale Yeast

Great stuff. I always make a starter and I’m tempted to build this up, stick half back in the vial and then build it up again so I always have some to hand for my own WC IPA’s. I might try and top crop some too! Now to check the freezer to make sure I’ve enough Centennial!

    WLP4040 Midwestern Ale Yeast

Bit of a resurrection post... Just after an update @St00 on how this turned out? I've done a variation on Two Hearted before but I just used Mangrove Jack M44 as I had some in the brewing box! I got some Midwestern Ale yeast this week so TH will be my next brew. What were your thoughts on the...

    Pumpkin Ale

Had a quick sample of this today. It’s not bad at all. I’ve put it in secondary and I’ll leave it a few week before adding some vanilla which apparently will help ‘round’ off the brew! First time using WLP002 and it’s left some nice body but not loads of sweetness- I’ll be using it again in some...

    Pumpkin Ale

I think historically pumpkin was used as a fermentable but it’s widely accepted that the spices used make the flavour rather than the pumpkin. The term ‘pumpkin spiced‘ seems to dominate everything form candles to coffee come autumn time especially in the USA and feels more apt a term. Due to...

    Pumpkin Ale

I’ve taken the plunge after saying no pumpkin needed in a pumpkin beer and brewed up an amber ale with ‘pumpkin‘ today. Just transferred it into the fv - I added 1.5kg of roasted butternut squash during the boil and some cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger 5 minutes from the end. Based off a Beer and...

    Pumpkin Ale

I’d agree it’s the spices which add the flavour, all that pumpkin does is make the whole mash laborious! I brewed a brown ale recipe a few years back for the good lady and didn’t bother with the gourd and just did a spice addition... Another alternative is make a spice ‘tea’ and add that to the...

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

I’ll be kegging mine this week so I’ll chip back in with a thought in a couple of weeks.

    When to add citra hops???

Its the agony and the glory of home brewing :)

    When to add citra hops???

You could always taste the sample you're using to measure the gravity and see if you think it needs more hop aroma. While you still have beer in the trial jar open the Citra and have a sniff alongside the trial sample and see if the smell of the beer and the hops work. You can then dry hop if...

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

Just wanted to update this thread as I progress through the fermentation So a week in and the gravity has dropped from 1.053 to 1.018. I left the lid loose on the FV over this first week and have top cropped a few times (super easy to do - sanitised spoon, skimmed off about 40% of the yeast...

    Yaldi IPA

Thanks for the heads up @Chippy_Tea It was utter *****. I’ve been drinking punk ipa for quite some time since brewdog first started in fact. I’m not a BD fanboi I should add and really didn’t rate their beers in the early days even as a shareholder from EFPII (I wanted discount at their bar as...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I didn’t enjoy the beer that much - but I’ll check that out cheers.

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I think this is an Aldi sanctioned Punk IPA clone

    Craft Beer & Brewing magazine

Their 'Make your best...' series of recipes are great. I've made two of them and really enjoyed them. The guy who writes them says when hes deviated from a traditional recipe and gives a good representation of the final beer in his description.

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

Pitched this yeast this morning before work (brewed last night but needed the temp of the wort to come down a little). I'll have a look and see what activity there is. The FV is fully closed but I'll leave it ajar as per @An Ankoù advice above. I'm looking forward to this brew - it's a Joker IPA...

Russian Imperial Stout - What yeast?

I've used the MJ M42 New World Strong in a recent Imp stout and it did good. That beer is currently sitting in a Caol Ila 1/4 cask until Dec so I can't give a proper judgement until them but it ended up being in the 9% range. I'm sure two packets could do the job and I think they had it rated to...

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

The flocculation is one of the reasons I’m keen to try it. If it keeps malty flavour I’m not too concerned about the esters as I’m really keen to try it in malt forward brews. I’ve been doing a lot of juicy pale ales of late so time to try something different.

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

Yeah I was thinking as it’s normally top cropped I’d be wise to try and follow that plan and work to the yeasts strength rather than my usual process (which I’m sure would be fine too judging by other users accounts of ‘pitch it and leave it’). I’m hoping to reuse this for a few generations so...

    Yorkshire Ale Yeast -1469

Just got my grains and yeast in for an English IPA. I was thinking about using this yeast as I’ve not used it before but read some positive reviews - folks seem to really like it and use it as a house strain or secret weapon in their Bitters. I’m gonna make sure and get plenty of O2 in before...
