Free hops to collect - Scotland Central Belt - Now offering postage (details in post #6)

I thought I’d give an update on a brew I did with my free Summit hops. I just did 10l to test as they are new to me and I could only really find a couple of recipes so I played around a bit to suit myself! I’m very happy with it, it’s a hoppy pale ale with a dry bitter finish, very refreshing...

    2 Litre PET Bottles

I sometimes do this to fast carb a new brew when I’m impatient to wait a couple of days. I normally use a 2.25l coke bottle. This is a good how to vid.

    Very low efficiency..not sure why!

I doughed in at 69 which is about normal as I loose 2 degrees and that brought the temp down to 67 for the mash. So should I have doughed in at a lower temp? Then my mash temp would have been too low? I’m confused?

    Very low efficiency..not sure why!

The grain is from my usual source and fine milled, although it didn’t look as fine as usual. I was wondering (as mentioned if it was related to using wheat and the mash temp as it’s my first time?

    Very low efficiency..not sure why!

I’m looking for some advice, I BIAB and usually get fairly good efficiency of between 70 and 80%. I’d did a Hefe clone the other night and only got 60% which is rather low. The recipe was: 1.8kg golden promise 2kg wheat malt 130g Munich malt. I mashed at around 67c and as I don’t take a pre...

Fitting in AG brewing around life

I should have noted I flex depending on recipe i.e. hop additions and at times just do a 30 minute mash or even extend to 90 minutes, it’s just about planning. Oh and I’m a Project Manager by profession so like to plan and I’m very discplined about the process and timing. Never leave it to the...

1 can kit with no additions to make low abv beer?

I’m looking for folks views.....I’ve got a 1.8kg Wilko Feeling Hoppy IPA that I’m thinking about brewing to 19l with no additional fermentables to get a low alcohol beer. My thinking is that brewing sugar only adds to abv so it should taste OK. I may also dry Hop with whatever interesting I’ve...

    Coopers Irish stout

I’ve done this quite a few times and love it, one of my favourite stouts. mostly been with 1kg of coopers brew enhancer 3 Which I believe is a combo of light spray malt, maltodextrine and dextrose. I’d probably go half and half with brewing sugar, but it'd be fine with just the dark malt.

    2kw induction 32l boil

I find with BIAB that the Burco is really easy to clean. Garden hose and light brush and done! Couldn’t be any easier.

    2kw induction 32l boil

I spent a month pondering and researching this recently as I wanted to go the induction route as well. I concluded that the Burco/Cygnet route was best due to cost, reliability and simplicity. I’ve done 6 brews from 10 to 21l to FV and think it’s a been a great option.

    Fridge painting

I read that somewhere else about chalk pens bring a PIA too but wasn’t sure if that was because of wood base rather than metal.

    Fridge painting

Hi, For those who have painted their fridge with blackboard paint... Have you done any prep or primer? can you use liquid chalk pens? Is rustoleum chalk board paint cold for the job? Does the finish last? Thanks R

Kegerator Gas Supply - on or off?

I’d say a leak. you need to do some leak testing with empty kegs to see whether the gas leak is coming from first. The so sore water testing. check the lids on the kegs as that’s a common source of leakage, also get some food safe grease/silicone spray and use liberally on balllocks and o rings.
